LED Noodles tasty for bendy lighting effects
[ad_1]
These are new to me but are definitely a thing, and Pimoroni is highlighting (!) its new range.
“They come in packs of 5, with a choice of colours – red, green, cool white and warm white. There’s also a taster pack of mini strips if you want to check out all the colours (best not to eat any of them though).”
Basically, the flexible ‘noodles’ run off 3V and can be used for adding novel lighting effects to wearables, models and dioramas. Or even making pretend neon signs…
Other powering options include taping the ends directly to a 2032 coin cell or using crocodile leads to connect them to a 2 x AA or AAA battery pack.
The four colour packs of LED Noodles (of 5 x 300nm lengths) will cost £9, and the taster pack (of 5 x 1.33nm lengths – 1 each of Red, Green, Blue, Cool White and Warm White) is £6.90.
Why is Blue available in the taster pack but not as a longer colour version?
“We found the neon-effect on the blue ones to be less appealing than the other colours due to the lack of diffusion, so we won’t be selling these ones in longer lengths for now,” writes Pimoroni.
Note that the listed length includes the contacts, so the usable length of LEDs is actually a little shorter – around 280mm (or 120mm for the short ones). Each noodle is around 2mm in diameter.
