LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Lauderhill has felt the pain of gun violence lately, so officials were preparing to launch Lauderhill Peace365 on Monday.
It’s up high on the agenda for Lauderhill’s Deputy Chief of Police Allen Siegel and Fire Chief Robert Torres who will meet with officials to announce the initiative at 4 p.m., on Monday, at City Hall.
In a statement, City Manager Desorae Giles-Smith described the initiative as a “comprehensive approach” to reduce crime since gun-related homicides are up by 44%.
“The Lauderhill Peace365 is set to further this progress, encouraging a unified effort towards peace,” Giles-Smith said.
According to city officials, the initiative encourages “daily acts of kindness and peaceful conflict resolution” through peace walks, workshops, and forums. The awareness campaign will promote a peace pledge with signage, media advocacy, and public service announcements.
In a statement, Commissioner Melissa P. Dunn said the campaign “embodies the belief” that peace is a daily practice.
“By making peace a personal commitment, residents contribute to building a more peaceful environment for themselves, their families, and our community,” Dunn said.
