Sometimes, it takes the absence of a thing to signal its return. Such is the case for the necktie: a longtime symbol of Western masculinity whose ubiquity has really taken a nosedive this century. At some point in the last couple decades, men in power stopped wearing ties as often, and cool, stylish guys started wearing ties again. Now that not wearing a tie feels “pandering” or “neoliberal,” wearing a tie suddenly seems “hip” and “fun for the hell of it.”

And no one has more fun for the hell of it than Julia Fox, who was snapped by paparazzi while out and about in a shirt entirely made of neckties—a mix of old-school repp stripe and tartan numbers—in Los Angeles this week. She accessorized the tie top, which hails from the brand Jaded London, with a leather micro-mini skirt, a grandfatherly tweed jacket, and another tie draped around her shoulders. Just, you know, for the hell of it.

Fox, whose public persona has recently metamorphosed from Uncut Gems breakout star into ineffable downtown personality, has a knack for constructing entire outfits from nontraditional textiles: neckties, a single white tank top or pair of jeans, autumn leaves she collected from a Lower East Side park and then cast in resin. But perhaps more importantly, Fox has an eye for nailing down what’s cool again before most of the general public has come back around on it, be it Merrell Hydro MocsGlenn Martens’s Diesel, or the art of dusting yourself off and trying again

So? Guess it’s time to brush up on your four-in-hand.
