Judy Blume is speaking out and setting the record straight over her comments about J.K. Rowling.

In a new feature from The Sunday Times, the author behind “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret”, was quoted as being in support of Rowling and her comments about the trans community.

However, Judy says that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

During the interview, the report had asked Judy about Rowling and the criticism against her online.

“I love her,” she is reported as saying. “I am behind her 100% as I watch from afar.”

Judy is now clarifying the context of her comments.

“I wholly support the trans community,” she wrote in a post on Twitter. “My point, which was taken out of context, is that I can empathize with a writer — or person — who has been harassed online. I stand with the trans community and vehemently disagree with anyone who does not fully support equality and acceptance for LGBTQIA+ people. Anything to the contrary is total bulls***.”

Judy then referenced another article that was written from Variety, where she spoke out against the bans on books throughout the country.

“What are you protecting your children from?” she told the paper at the time. “Protecting your children means educating them and arming them with knowledge, and reading and supporting what they want to read. No child is going to become transgender or gay or lesbian because they read a book. It’s not going to happen. They may say, ‘Oh, this is just like me. This is what I’m feeling and thinking about.’ Or, ‘I’m interested in this because I have friends who may be gay, bi, lesbian.’ They want to know!”

Rowling just recently spoke about her anti-trans comments, sharing what some Harry Potter fans said about them.
