Isolated To Widely Scattered Storms Monday – WCCB Charlotte’s CW

[ad_1]

AM Headlines:

  • Isolated PM Showers and Storms
  • Cooler Temperatures
  • Dry Stretch
  • Warming by the Weekend

Discussion:

Isolated to scattered showers and storms this afternoon, mainly for the mountains. This will be the last chance of wet weather this week as high pressure fills in, keeping the forecast dry and quiet. Highs will reach the upper 80s this afternoon under mostly sunny skies. Much cooler temperatures beginning tomorrow with highs in the low 80s and overnight lows falling to the low to mid 60s. It will feel a lot like early fall with cooler than average temperatures by 5-10 degrees through Friday. Temps will begin to warm this weekend with highs back into the upper 80s.

Fun Fact:

Today is the Blue Supermoon aka the Sturgeon Moon aka the Dry Moon aka End of Fruit Month Moon

The August Full Moon is tonight. It’s the first of 4 Supermoons in 2024. What makes a moon “super”? It reaches its full face just a couple of days after perigee (its closest point to earth). This makes it appear about 7% bogger and 30% brighter than usual. It will look even bigger against the horizon at moonrise tonight at 8:25pm.

This moon is also called a blue moon, but it’s not because it’s the second full moon in the month. Instead it’s the 3rd of 4 full moons in an astronomical season — a more rare occurrence .

It’s called the Sturgeon Moon from the very large fish caught around the Great Lakes this time of year. The Catawba People of South Carolina call it the Dry moon, While the Cherokee of North Carolina refer to it as the End of Fruit Month Moon.

Tropics Update:

Ernesto has actually strengthened slightly and remains a hurricane about 400 miles SSE of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Dangerous beach conditions continue for the northeast and Atlantic Canada through early this week. It is forecast to become post tropical as it weakens on Tuesday.
