The new track chronicles Nicky chasing a love that he knows will probably end in heartbreak. “I don’t wanna make a mistake. ’Mile Away’ is about chasing someone that you know is 100 percent not the right person for you, but you want to make it work anyways,” says Nicky. “I get a gut feeling when I know I should probably stop talking to someone, but sometimes I choose to ignore that feeling to see what happens (and because it’s fun). This song is about giving things a try for the hell of it, even if it all inevitably comes crashing down.”

iskwē | ᐃᐢᑫᐧᐤ (short for waseskwan iskwew, meaning “blue sky woman”) is an award-winning Indigenous creator whose catalogue drips of a spectrum of emotions and is powered by resilience. Following several seasons of high highs being met with low lows, the Cree Métis artist retreated south to Mexico and inward to her soul to paint a 10-song collection that illustrates the gut-wrenching roller coaster ride that has been her recent life.

nīna, the opus of iskwē’s rebirth, is the Cree translation for “me” and was chosen as the title of her fourth solo album as an ode to the profoundly autobiographical elements. The album is the sonic manifestation of the divine feminine explored through vignettes of love, passion, anger, betrayal, and loss.

To bring her incredible stories to life, iskwē teamed up with 10x Grammy-nominated producer Damian Taylor (Björk, The Killers, Bomba Estereo.) Damian also co-wrote a selection of the songs, including the Top 20 Alt-Rock charting lead single “I Get High” ft. Nina Hagen. The culmination of their sounds resulted in an offering of ethereal eclecticism, reminiscent of the sensuality of late 90s R&B with the most delicious twist of Esthero.

nīna follows iskwē’s travels back to herself in real-time. Acid Tongue is an American garage band heavily influenced by classic soul, punk & psychedelic rock. Formed in a damp Seattle basement in 2015, the band immediately hit the road, extensively touring the US & Europe and refining their unique brand of rock & roll. Consisting of a core duo—singer/songwriter Guy Keltner & drummer/vocalist Ian Cunningham—the band also includes numerous touring & studio musicians scattered between Paris, New York, London, Mexico City, & Los Angeles, with a rotating roster that seems to grow larger by the day.

In 2015, Acid Tongue established their own label, Freakout Records, and in 2017 the band released their debut album, aptly titled Babies. Acid Tongue’s fourth full-length, Acid on the Dance Floor, due out Spring 2024, showcases their now signature sound and a back-to-basics approach to rock music. Incorporating elements of glam, R&B and post-punk, the album is a loud, funky and chaotic acid trip that redefines “the Seattle sound”.

Essex-born R&B come jazz-pop songstress Ruti shares her stunning new single ‘Don’t Make A Sound’, which is rich in her signature emotional fuelled vocals and angelic artistic essence. Since Ruti Olajugbagbe’s emergence onto the scene in 2018, Ruti has been growing from strength to strength. Maijah Anastasia Sanson-Frey (born May 24, 2000), known professionally as first-name-only Maijah (MY-yuh), is a West Coast-based singer-songwriter and up-and-coming popstar. Maijah, who has been writing and performing her entire life, began officially releasing music in 2021, eventually gaining over 10 million combined Spotify/Apple Music streams in just 2 years. Anna, of Friedberg, says “It was the first song I wrote with Dan Carey: It started with a jam at his studio in South London – with just 2 guitars and a cowbell. Well… and a few cowbell hits later the song was there in its whole glory. I had such a good time making this track with Dan. I kind of already felt from the very first second I met him and entered his studio that this was gonna be amazing. The track is about non-commitment, I am experiencing more and more in all aspects of modern society.”

Cork-born artist LYRA releases her debut, self-titled album, unveiling a comprehensive reflection of who the artist is today. Written between Los Angeles and London, the 14 tracks express the broad range of her musicality, journeying from the dark and sultry “Chess” to the ethereal radio hit “Falling” and the pulsating dance anthem of “Lovers”, all of which elevate her powerful vocals that have given her a one-to-watch status. 

“When I began writing music, I aimed for a specific style,” she explains. “But as I started developing, I wanted to write a ballad when I was heartbroken, or an irreverent song when I had a one-night stand, or an upbeat song about going on the lash with my friends and dancing until three am. To me, music should be fun and evoke different emotions, and you’re not going to do that through one sound.”

Underpinning these textures is Lyra’s commanding voice that effortlessly plays wavers between lightness and depth, and fragility and strength, which immediately enriches the emotion in her words. Her raw and powerful vocals are put to exacting use: lyrically, the album offers snapshots of past relationships – specifically one turbulent end and its liberating aftermath. “The first ballad I ever wrote was ‘Someone New’, and it took me a lot of heartbreak and learning to get there,” she says. “But the album also documents when I embraced my single life and went a bit carefree and wild. People will understand much more about me, because all the songs are about my life. Except for ‘Naked’. That’s my alter ego coming out.”

In 2016 Lyra picked up a record deal with Polydor and relocated to London. The first Polydor-release single “Falling” garnered great interest, with strong radio play and a Choice Music Prize Song of the Year nomination in 2019 alongside acts like Hozier, Roisin Murphy and Lankum.

To develop Lyra’s craft, manager Caroline Downey (credited for discovering Hozier) put her in contact with Burns (Lady Gaga, Charlie XCX). Enamoured by her promise, he invited Lyra to LA for writing sessions in Max Martin’s studio to kick off the process of making the album. “It was an incredible experience, it was like a whole different world,” she says. “These are people who created Lady Gaga’s sound, they’re masterminds in the industry. That they were interested in working with me gave me the confidence to believe in myself more, which in turn allowed me to experiment and have fun.”

Singer, guitarist and songwriter, Mike Matney ’s genre defying, creative music blends together elements of the blues, funk, hard rock and heavy metal that needs to be heard!

Originally from Virginia and now living back there on a farm, in a log cabin, Matney ‘s career has seen him rub shoulders with some of the biggest names in rock music over the years. His influences include Billy Gibbons, Frank Marino, Pat Travers and Robin Trower. 

Matney started piano lessons aged six but when he was 8 the music on the radio captivated him and he started to play guitar. Although he moved several times as a child and had to make new friends, his music was always a constant in his life. One day a friend invited him down to his basement where his older brother and some friends were jamming with electric guitar, bass and drums. He was hooked! He played in bands all through school and immediately after school moved to Nashville where he met Kriss famous and I took Ron keels place in his band, Tabu when Ron left to go to LA to play with Steeler. Because of Kriss he got to hang out with people that summer like Adrian Belew, Willie Dixon, Roy Acuff, etc. After six or seven months he returned home for a while and hung out at a local record store that had a small 4 track studio in the back. The owner let him record there some. During his time in Tabu, Matney gained the nickname `White Boy’. This is where the name of his next band, White Boy and The Average Rat Band originated. Having saved up yard mowing money, the band had 300 albums pressed. Their 1980 debut album is now a collector’s cult and those are worth over $1000 apiece and in 2023 he signed a record deal Riding Easy Records out of Los Angeles for its 4th reissue. Matney also played guitar for David Allan-Coe in the mid-80s for a while.

Matney completed a music degree as well as a degree in recording industry management in 1997 at Middle Tennessee State university. During his time in Nashville he interned at Asylum Records in the A & R department and also worked for a PR company on music row.

Now Matney has teamed up with multi-platinum producer/artist Stevie Salas to produce an album by his new band, Matney. Salas has previously worked with Buddy Miles, Mick Jagger and Rod Stewart, and is also an award-winning composer in his own right. Rolling Stone called Salas one of the 50 all-time greatest guitar players. He has sold 2,000,000 albums and won the Sundance Film Festival award for his documentary ‘Rumble’. The album was recorded at Assembly Line studios, Austin, Texas. With Stevie Salas producing and playing guitar, Matney playing guitar and singing, and Matt Novensky on bass this album is destined to be a big seller. 

Leading single “All Fired Up”, is an invigorating, hard-hitting rock song all about “a night out on the town, feeling cocky and running on all cylinders,” shares Matney. The hypnotic, relentless pulsating drive is definitely going to take listeners someplace.

Second single “Rebel Saint” details the immense personal struggles Matney went through in rural Virginia and his battles with addiction and grief. Horrorcore rap luminary Brotha Lynch Hung has announced the long-awaited sequel to his debut album Season Of Da Siccness: The Resurrection. Titled Season Of Da Siccness 2: Kevlar, the album is set to be released on CD and digital formats May 31 and on vinyl in July via RBC Records/BMG.

After years of teasing and promising fans a sequel, Lynch is now ready to bring Season Of Da Siccness full circle. Silent Mass invites disciples of Post-Punk, Ethereal Wave, Shoegaze, and 90s Alternative to a wailing wall of sound that is irresistible for anyone who has prayed for a darker and heavier Enya or is beckoned to embark on a sonic pilgrimage through territories claimed by The Cranberries, Chelsea Wolfe, Cranes, and Dead Can Dance.

Silent Mass emerged as a solitary pursuit in sun-drenched pre-pandemic Los Angeles by Ammo Bankoff. Her debut single, a cover of ‘Total Recall’ that Big Takeover Magazine called  “melancholic escapist dreamery,” was released in 2020 on Dune Altar as part of the charity compilation ‘Do You Feel That Way Too? A Tribute to Adrian Borland & The Sound.’

Encompassing haunting vocals and lush guitar lines with primal percussive rhythms that nod to Ammo’s punk-infused youth, Silent Mass released two more singles, ‘Rose + Crown’ and ‘A Cold War City’ in 2021. “Ammo recalls so many different artists (Kate Bush, Jane Siberry, Cocteau Twins, Slowdive), while not sounding particularly like any of them very much. This is melancholic loaded reverie, capable of entrancing you into Lynchian territory” noted The Spill Magazine.

Ammo eventually relocated with audio engineer and guitarist Robert Duncan to join drummer and producer Alex Posell in NYC. With demand for live performances, bassist Kevin LoBiondo completed the band’s final incarnation. 

Currently hailed as “ethereal Brooklyn goths” by Brooklyn Vegan, Silent Mass will get you into a “dreamy state” with a sound that has disseminated to sold-out shows as far as Berlin and Los Angeles. They have shared the stage with occult rockers True Widow and played NYC’s five-day New Colossus Festival. Leading single “Land of Heart’s Desire” is about unfulfilled aspirations inadvertently affecting those around you. While the second single “Nest of Flowers” “is an ode to walking a directionless path into the unknown. It’s a reminder to trust that a way out always reveals itself in time.” proclaims Ammo.

SUSS’ fifth release, Birds & Beasts, on Northern Spy Records, finds the New York-based ambient trio digging deeper, populating its stark, ethereal soundscapes with primal currents of sound inspired by the cycles and rhythms of the world around us. But while conveying the power of natural forces, it also embraces occasional warm rays of hope and humanity.

“For once, it looked like the stark, vast landscapes that we had been painting before were starting to be populated with a bit of creature warmth,” says Bob Holmes (mandolin, guitar, harmonica, violin). But, he adds, “this is not Garden of Eden kind of stuff.” Pat Irwin (electric guitar, resonator guitar, keyboards) adds, “I think of the fragility of the world around us. I think of the humanity, and the lack of it. The world seems out of balance. There are birds and there are beasts.”  

Birds & Beasts follows on the heels of SUSS’ acclaimed 2022 self-titled double album, cited by Pitchfork as “music that dilates the world to a high-lonesome point, a pastoral quintessence that doesn’t change so much as it gradually opens and closes, telescopes and recedes.” As in the past, the band combines ambient synths, loops and found sounds with more traditional Americana instrumentation to create what Aquarium Drunkard describes as “country music, mutated and stretched along a vast horizon — open music for open souls.”  

But if the horizons here are deeper — more Gulf Stream than Grand Canyon — in the primordial pull of tracks like “Birds” and “Prey,” which imply both natural and societal disquiet, Birds & Beasts offers the freedom of celestial and terrestrial peregrinations in “Flight,” “Overstory” and “Migration.” Taking a cue from the 30-minute collaboration Rising that SUSS recently released with Australian banjoist Andrew Tuttle, the tracks on Birds & Beasts are generally longer, with fewer elements and a greater sense of space.

As always, the band’s discovery of new horizons evolved organically. When it comes to defining the next step in their journey, “the music is the articulation,” says pedal steel guitarist Jonathan Gregg. “We’re not sure where we’re going, but we know when we’ve arrived, and it’s never the same place twice.” 

Keira Gray grew up in Red Earth Creek, Alberta before eventually moving to Faust, Alberta.

She has aspired to be a singer since she was a little girl listening to Ariana Grande, Rihanna, and Christina Aguilera. Most of her time was spent teaching herself to sing their songs.

Keira currently lives in Slave Lake, Alberta where she works as a server. When she’s not working, you can find her collaborating with other music professionals writing songs and recording music to share with the world.

Her new single, “After You,” was inspired from a personal experience that Keira has since moved on from. It was very therapeutic to express her feelings at that time and she hopes you all enjoy it as much as she enjoyed writing it.

Malini Sridharan’s Tombeaux is a first, and perhaps a new beginning. Though it proceeds from, and deals in, the ultimate end.

The seven songs of Tombeaux comprise the Brooklyn-based composer and multi-instrumentalist’s third full-length recording, and her first written and arranged for a large ensemble. Frustrated by the limitations of self-production and solitary home recording, Sridharan set out to create something sonically broader, featuring sitar, vibraphone, woodwinds, horns, strings, and piano. Tombeaux is richly textured and deeply felt, weaving medieval and classical influences into a distinct art pop tapestry that will be much loved by fans of Laurie Anderson, Bel Canto, Anna von Hausswolf, and Julia Holter, who produced the record.

The record’s subject is as expansive as the ensemble; each song is a discrete tale of a death, imagined by Sridharan and told in the first person. From reimagining the work of 16th-century Indian poet Mirabai to exploring Ursula K. Le Guin’s Earthsea afterworld, The Dry Land, to writing about her own grandmother’s death, Sridharan teases out the varied nature of death, applying a broad range of historical and cultural lenses to this great inevitability.

Sridharan was raised by an Indian father who exposed her to Indian classical music and a mother whose passion for history, archeology, and medieval music informed and inspired her from an early age. Her upbringing in the woods of Michigan and high school years on the shores Lake Michigan perhaps further inspired her tendency toward reverie, imagined narratives, and the drama that unfolds between this shore and the next.

Quickly rising Argentinian producer and DJ Nathan Katz is set to unveil his latest musical offering, the Parallax EP, on April 26, 2024, via Lee Burridge’s esteemed All Day I Dream record label. In the wake of his recent notable successes and quickly rising international acclaim, Nathan Katz continues to carve his unique sound in the world of melodic and organic house.

The Parallax EP promises to be a sonic journey crafted with influences from diverse corners of the musical spectrum. Drawing inspiration from a myriad of bands and musicians beyond electronic music, Nathan Katz infuses each track with its own distinct narrative and emotive depth.

Reflecting on the EP, Nathan shares: “The direction of an object appears to differ when viewed from different positions… Parallax.” This quote encapsulates the essence of the Parallax EP, suggesting a dynamic shift in perspective which can be achieved through Nathan Katz’s unique world of sound.

The titular track is a standout on the EP. Nathan kicks things off with a crisp, energizing percussive pattern, but doesn’t wait long before introducing a hypnotizing melody. The track remains fairly stripped back during its introduction, but additional elements are gradually introduced, and around the two minute mark, we are greeted by a variety of playful melodic components dancing over an energizing bassline. Around halfway through the track, there is a breakdown, and we are greeted with the only vocal component of ‘Parallax’, an incredibly powerful description of a perspective changing experience: “Somehow everything was different. Like a new person had emerged from me. I could see myself in a perspective that I’d never seen before. No inhibitions, no worries. For the first time I felt like I knew where I belonged, and nothing could stop me from being there. Nothing and everything felt real. The world was underneath me, around me, above me. I could see everything and everything could see me. I found… peace.” In the latter half of the track, Nathan delicately brings us back down to earth, leaving listeners eager to experience the remaining three tracks of the EP.

Nashville femmecore four-piece The Dreaded Laramie today share the anthemic power pop shredder “Life Is Funny”. From the deceptively airy intro to the crunching hooks that soon show themselves, this new single is a testament to the group’s commitment to befriend dark feelings with humor and soaring guitarmony.

The feelings at play in “Life Is Funny” swirl around an experience with a crush that led Dreaded Laramie frontwoman MC Cunningham from initial rejection to growing discomfort. She explains, “At one point, I tried to make a move, and he politely turned me down (reasonable), but then starting that night at about 3AM flooded me with a TON of very cryptic text messages, including the title, ‘Life is funny.’” She continues, “It’s very confusing to be both sad that someone has rejected you and uncomfortable with the advances he makes following the rejection. I am still friends with this person, but he texts me a lot less now, and only during business hours.”

Nevertheless, If there is a small chance I can reach just one person that needs to hear this song, then it was worth all the effort and heartache.”

Otlo is the moniker of 21-year-old bedroom pop crooner Preston Bearden. The wide-eyed, yellow polo-wearing Chattanooga native has been making a name for himself in the underground indie scene since early 2023. From the imaginative, yet highly-analytical mind of Alannah Kavanagh comes Grizzly Coast, the Toronto-based musical project blending dreamy indie rock instrumentation with introspective pop lyricism.

Starting in 2017, Grizzly Coast cut her teeth playing the Toronto solo acoustic circuit before expanding into a four-piece indie band in 2019. Nine months after the band’s inaugural live show, they were honored as part of Exclaim! Magazine’s Class of 2020, tearing up the stage in celebration of Canadian music.

Since kicking off the project, Grizzly Coast has been sharpening her songwriting, growing her loyal following, and tightening her live show in Toronto’s vibrant live music scene, supporting acts like Fast Romantics and Begonia. Rosalie James is a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter from Cornwall, UK. She grew up learning piano and guitar, listening to The Beatles and The Bangles on her bright yellow Sony Walkman, weeping over the impassioned drama of 80s synth-pop and new wave, obsessing over the lyrics of 90s dreampop and indie artists and drawing inspiration from anyone who could write a good song. 

Rosalie has experienced sensory sensitivities and difficulty managing emotions and social interaction since she was nine years old. She has been treated for severe depression and anxiety, premenstrual dysphoric disorder and substance use issues but it wasn’t until January 2023 that she was finally diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorder. For the first time, she feels able to live an authentic life. After two degrees and ten years working as a Social Worker in social care and mental health, Rosalie decided in June 2023 that it was time to return to her creative roots. Her desire to change the world abides, instead using her music to raise awareness and reduce stigma in areas including neurodiversity, domestic violence, addiction and mental health.

Rosalie’s recent Kickstarter campaign raised £5000 in 28 days on the strength of a short video including clips of her songs. She played a range of festival gigs over the summer of 2023, supported top UK pianist Ben Waters at Mylor Sessions and appeared on Radio Cornwall for some amusing and direct interviews. Her previous singles Will We Ever Rest? and her cover of Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill received adds on BBC Introducing South West to huge positive response from listeners.

Rosalie writes and records prolifically and has a back catalogue of over 200 songs (growing every couple of weeks), giving her a head-start for future albums and publishing/sync deals. Her songs have already been featured on UK primetime soap opera Hollyoaks and US drama The Black Donnellys.

Rosalie’s music is expected to appeal equally to fans of classic songwriters (Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Carole King, Kate Bush, Fleetwood Mac, Deacon Blue) and progressive and emotionally literate indie artists (Conor Oberst, Elliot Smith, Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen, Bon Iver, boygenius, The National). She has a broad reach, with brutally honest and striking lyrics, hooky tunes, a dreamily soulful voice, and a slightly chaotic stage presence.

It is relevant that a lot of Rosalie’s forthcoming album Full of Chemicals was produced and recorded in Los Angeles. Her father lived in California during the early 70s, touring as a stage manager, roadie and lighting engineer for Grateful Dead, Wings, Santana and The Tubes. She’s spent her whole life hearing about the West Coast of the US, both the landscape and the musical influences, and this gives an interesting circular narrative. Her recent trip to Los Angeles allowed her to finalise the lead vocals for the album in Balboa Recording Studio, with producer Daniel Knowles (Sharon Van Etten).

With Texas charm and New York grit, Lorena Leigh is the feminine fusion of homegrown story-telling, danceable rhythms, and summertime obsession. New Jersey rock band, Can’t Swim have released new single “No Backbone”

“One of my favourite songwriters ever said “a good tune should take 30 minutes to write” and “No Backbone” certainly falls into that category. Once we finished it we went back a few times to see if we should add a part or bring more instrumentation/layers to the mix but whatever we did seemed to take away from the song rather than add to it. As time goes on I think as a band we are more and more drawn to do what excites us creatively in that moment and to do things we haven’t done before. I’m not saying this song is reinventing the wheel by any means but having a tune that feels raw and stripped down with incredibly literal lyrics (haha) is something that feels new and fresh for us to put out.  Elements Music & Arts Festival, the premier immersive electronic festival of the Northeast, has announced its phase two additions ahead of its 2024 edition in Long Pond, Pennsylvania on August 9-11. Elements is the ultimate arena of exploration, where music, community, art, camping, and adventure coalesce in perfect unison. Best described as an escape unlike any other, the festival is co-created by those who embark on the journey, fostering a home for childlike wonder and a creative space for like-minded individuals.

Lineup additions include standout back to backs from Late Checkout party starter Chris Lorenzo and Night Bass label head AC Slater as Fly With Us, plus seasoned house favorites Green Velvet B2B Patrick Topping. New Jersey-based singer-songwriter Eric Sleeper carries a unique, dreamy, and tangible vibe that sets him apart from his peers.
