School will be out for the summer in just a few weeks, and kids will be looking for something to do!

The inaugural Summer50 Fest aims to provide parents, teens, and youth with opportunities to learn about jobs, internships, youth programs, and more. It will take place on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the United Center.

The event and parking are free of charge.

LaToyia Huggins, founder and executive director of Ward365 and Christmas in the Wards, joined WGN Evening News at 4 p.m. to discuss the motivation behind the inaugural event.

“We saw an opportunity. Every year, parents struggle. They’re still working. Their lives still continue, but kids are out of school, and we don’t get a summer break,” Huggins said. “And so, there are so many resources in the city that are free and accessible, but in a lot of communities, it’s hard to access and know what is out there.”
