LANCASTER, S.C. – Human skeletal remains were found in a wooded area in Lancaster, South Carolina on Tuesday afternoon, and deputies believe it could be the remains of a man that went missing in June.
Construction workers found the remains around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the woods a few feet from West Manor Drive.
Deputies responded to the scene to investigate and collect evidence.
An autopsy will be performed, but deputies said they believe the remains could be Ricky Ray Wright.
Wright was reported missing in Lancaster County and was last seen on June 11th.
“It appears these are the remains of Ricky Wright,” said Sheriff Barry Faile. “If that is correct, we’re sorry our efforts to locate him did not produce a different result, and our condolences are extended to his family and friends. Our office and the coroner’s office will thoroughly examine all the evidence in this case to positively identify the remains and determine what caused this death.”
The coroner’s office notified Wright’s family of this development. Positive identification and cause of death are pending following the autopsy and other testing results.
Anyone with additional information on this case is asked to call the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at 803-283-3388.
