Human remains found near La Grande; major crimes team investigating

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An investigation is underway in Union County after human skeletal remains were found near La Grande on Oct. 20.

The set of bones are incomplete and weathered, the Union County Sheriff’s Office said. Authorities are sending the bones to the Oregon State Crime Lab to determine the age and sex of the skeleton and potentially identify the person.

“Until the OSP Forensics Lab releases its results, any speculation to the identity of the remains by the public is fictitious,” the Union County Sheriff’s Office said. “We ask the public to respect the investigation.”

The UCSO Major Crimes Team is handling the investigation. Authorities are not releasing any more information about the case at this time.
