How Many Blonde Bloggers Does It Take To Rank On Page One Of Google?

[ad_1]

No this isn’t the beginning of a very cheesy joke, but I know it sounds like it. The answer to the question is “Just one blonde blogger”. That’s me! Little old blonde me with my very new and meagre wellness blog. I now rank on page one of Google and did it in under 5 months!

Currently my blog is ranking for not just 1 keyword but 21 KEYWORDS ON PAGE ONE OF GOOGLE, and five of those are in the top 5 results.

I bet you’re wondering how on Earth I managed it, because SEO is a massively complex thing to figure out. Especially when you are new to blogging and you have so much to learn. Loads of large blogs or companies that have had websites up and running for years pay for specialists to do their SEO for them, but us lowly bloggers have to do it all.

I wanted to share with you how I have achieved this amazing result with my keywords because I know the struggle we all face to reach the Holy Grail of blogging. Page one of Google!

It’s all down to the advice of one amazing man called Mike and his logical process for finding the best keywords. If you follow his technique like I do it will make you appear on page one of Google too. By the way I promise I am not getting paid to say this, I am just so excited it is working, that I wanted to share it with you.

SEO and keywords are essential if you want to rank on page one of Google

My journey as a blogger has been tough, I’m sure I don’t need to tell you this. You can write the best articles and posts in the world but if you aren’t focusing on keywords then your work just won’t get seen. Yes I know you can publish your writing all over social media and that will help, but it takes so much time. I found my views would go up dramatically when I spent a week in Facebook groups sharing and following. But as soon as I stopped, my views dropped right back down again.

If there is one thing I have learnt from building my blog, it’s that SEO and keywords are essential for creating long term success.

Before I began to rank on page one of Google

It’s crazy how much I have learnt this year and my gratitude goes out to a beautiful lady called Eb Gargano who has a blog called Productive Blogging. She is truly an amazing person who knows everything there is to know about blogging. She gives away so much free advice and, although she doesn’t know it, I see her as my mentor. I would have given up a long time ago if it hadn’t been for her amazing website. So, for any blogger who hasn’t yet heard of her, I can’t emphasise enough how useful you’ll find her blogging tips.

So far Eb has helped me with all aspects of developing my blog, but there is one part of her teaching which I struggled to get my head around. I couldn’t get to grips with the way she was explaining keyword research. It wasn’t her fault. Her method just didn’t click with me. I know her method works because look at where her blog is today, but for me I need a more logical step by step process.

I went on the hunt for an SEO guru that could explain the steps in simple terms for a dumb blonde blogger.

Mike helped me rank on page one of Google

Hours and hours of trawling the internet finally landed me on a YouTube video called How To Rank On Page 1 Of Google (With A Domain Authority Of 1). This video was put together by Mike from Stupidsimpleseo.com and after watching it I felt like the veil had been lifted. SEO and keyword research made sense and Mike had given me simple, logical steps to follow.

Halleluiah! I had been drowning in a murky sea of keyword confusion and Mike had rescued me and lifted me to dry land.

After following his advice, I started to see my keywords gathering momentum and one after the other started to rank on page one of Google. I now have my own logical step by step system in place when I do my keyword research and I’m going to share it with you.

Rank on page one of Google with these 9 easy steps.

Step 1:

On a pad of paper write the following:

Key Word:

Title:

Subheadings (H2’s):

You will fill these in once you have found your keyword and the intent. (I’ll tell you about intent in a minute)

Step 2:

Find out what you Domain Authority (DA) is. If you don’t know this already head to semrush.com and on the home page click on “Check Site’s Authority”. Enter your web address in the Backlinks Analytics page and hit enter. Your authority score (DA) will show up together with your backlinks data. Don’t worry about the backlinks at this point. Save that for another day.

Step 3:

Now you have your DA you need to make a list of your competitors in your niche who also have a similar DA. For example if your DA is 15 then write down any web addresses of competitors with a DA between 10 and 20.

Step 4:

Using websites like Uber Suggest and Semrush you can enter the web addresses of your competitors and view any keywords that they are ranking for on page 1 of Google (In the top 10). All you need to do first is set up a free account with these websites and they will give you a small number of free daily competitor searches. Uber Suggest gives you three and Semrush gives you ten per day.

Step 5:

Make a list of all your competitors top 10 ranking keywords, preferably choosing ones that are relevant to your blog and have a good amount of search volume. If they are ranking for these words and they have a similar DA to you, then there is a very high chance you will rank for them too. Don’t forget though that your post must be full of value for your reader and well laid out.

Step 6:

OK so you now have a large list of fabulous easy keywords to target. Pick your first one and head to Google. Type it in the search bar and see what comes up. What are the titles like of the posts already on page one? You need to make yours as similar and as catchy as you can.

Step 7:

Look at the section that says: “people also ask”. These questions will make excellent H2 headings for your post. Answer these headings in your writing with detail and quality, and you have yourself a top ranking article.

Step 8:

Check the intent of the keyword you have entered in the search bar. How has Google chosen articles to answer that keyword search. Look for the angle? How has it interpreted what the search means? For example:  When someone types in a phrase in Google what exactly are they looking for? What results do they expect to find?  Look at what other posts come up and make sure yours follows the same intent.

Step 9:

Complete the headings in step one and you’ve now got the outline for a cracking post that has a very strong chance of ranking on page one of Google. Make sure you include the keyword at the beginning of your title if you can and through out your post. If you are using wordpress.org for your blog then the Yoast SEO plugin can help you with this using its traffic light system.

One last tip I will give you is that Google can take a while to index your new pages on your site so to speed things up head over to Google Search Console and under URL Inspection copy and paste the new URL of you latest post. Hit enter and Google will focus on indexing that URL ASAP. It helps your post to jump the queue as it were.

Google is constantly changing its algorithms so there are no guarantees to anything anymore, but all I can say is that this process works brilliantly for me, so hopefully it will for you too.

If you can also work on boosting your DA by increasing your quality backlinks to your site then you will find there will be more competitor keywords available for you to choose from.

I don’t normally write posts about blogging tips because my wellness blog milsygirl.com focuses on self-care, positivity and motivation but I had to take the opportunity to share what I have learned so far.

Hopefully you’ve found this useful and that it makes sense. If you need any clarification with any part of this please drop me a line and I ‘ll be happy to help as best I can.

A quick thank you to Mike from Stupidsimpleseo.com and Eb from Productiveblogging.com. I hope you don’t mind me mentioning you in this post. You are my heroes. 😊
