House of the Dragon season two finally has an epic trailer – here's what to expect from the latest Targaryen dynasty drama

“We look forward to sharing a second series with our customers on Sky and NOW.”

While we look forward to season two, the show’s star Matt Smith, sent the rumour mill swirling that there may even be a season three. “Once we make the jump, we’re in. I’m pretty sure from then on there’s not any big huge time jumps, particularly next season and the one after,” he said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

Is there a House of the Dragon season two trailer?

Season 2 promises even more dragon drama as Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower’s forces go head to head. The trailer, which was released on 3 December, shows Daemon Targaryen suiting up in his impressive armour, knights on horseback, soldiers burning alive and several of the main cast riding their dragons into battle. Big stuff. Watch the official trailer below:

What will House of the Dragon season two be about?

While it hasn’t been confirmed, season two will likely cover the timeline of 129-131 AC from George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood. This period decides the successor to the Iron Throne.

We now know from the teaser trailer (see above) that revenge is the essence of the season two as Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) warns: “There is no war so hateful to the gods as a war between kin. And no war so bloody as a war between dragons.”

The creative team behind House of the Dragon previously said that the second season will follow a more traditional and slower pace compared to the time jumps in season one.

“We will get to the spectacle. But you have to understand these people’s complexities before they’re thrown into war,” showrunner Ryan Condal told The Times. “Series two will hit the rhythms people came to expect from the middle run of Game of Thrones, but it will have been earned, and viewers will feel the tragedies because we put the work in.”
