Hotel Review: Aman Tokyo – NerdWallet

Aman hotels are considered to be some of the top luxury hotels in the world. Every year, Luxury Hotel Intelligence, a members-only resource for luxury travel, ranks the top hotel brands in the world — and Aman has been ranked in the top five since the list began in 2018.

The Aman Tokyo is a luxury hotel located in the heart of the city’s financial district and a few blocks from the Imperial Palace. If you’re considering a high-end stay in Tokyo, here’s our Aman Tokyo review to help you decide if this is the right hotel for your trip.

Given Aman’s status in the luxury hotel world, it’s not surprising that Aman Tokyo isn’t cheap. Deluxe rooms start at around $1,850 per night, with suites starting at about $3,170 per night, including taxes and fees.

Aman Tokyo, in the Otemachi district, occupies the top six floors of the Otemachi Tower, which offers expansive views of the city. On a clear day, you can see Mount Fuji in the distance.

The financial district of Otemachi is on the quieter side, which is great for relaxing, but if you’re visiting Tokyo for excitement and nightlife you’ll likely need to venture beyond the hotel. The hotel is a quick walk to the Tokyo Station and Otemachi Station which gives you easy access to the rest of Tokyo — with Shinjuku and Shibuya both less than 30 minutes away by train.

For things to do near the Aman Tokyo, you’ll have a less than 10-minute walk to the Imperial Palace, which has served as the residence of Japan’s emperors since 1868.

Aman Tokyo has 84 guestrooms and suites, which are a mix of contemporary and traditional Japanese designs.

The rooms at the Aman Tokyo are large, particularly by Tokyo standards (where hotel rooms are often smaller than what you’d find in other cities). The deluxe room is 764 square feet and the Aman Suite, the hotel’s largest, is around 1,689 square feet.

All rooms are decorated in a simple but clean style and offer luxurious soaking tubs as well as incredible views of Tokyo.

All stays at the Aman Tokyo come with access to the hotel’s wellness facilities, which include a Japanese-style bathing facility, steam rooms, a 24-hour gym and an indoor swimming pool with expansive views of the city.

Whether you’re staying at the Aman Tokyo or aren’t a guest but would like to visit the hotel, we’d recommend booking a treatment at the hotel’s spa, which will give you access to the bathing facility, steam rooms and an after-treatment relaxation area where you can enjoy tea and ice cream while looking out over the city.

The Aman Tokyo offers guests a number of dining options, including:

• La Pâtisserie. A bakery that also has sandwiches and cakes, where you can watch the chefs make your food.

• Arva. Italian fare, open for both lunch and dinner.

• Musashi. Authentic Japanese omakase dining, featuring sushi, sashimi and other fresh options. 

• The Lounge. All-day dining, cocktails and afternoon tea, where you’ll also find panoramic views of Tokyo.

• The Café. Located just outside the hotel in Otemachi forest, here you can enjoy lunch and desserts in a peaceful nature setting.

Even though Tokyo has much to offer and see, the hotel’s expansive wellness, spa and dining options make it hard to leave.

Being close to Tokyo Station makes it easy to get to Aman Tokyo from either of the city’s two major airports. From Haneda Tokyo International Airport, it takes less than 35 minutes by train to get to the hotel, and from Narita International Airport, you’ll travel about an hour on the Narita Express train.

If you really want to splurge, Aman Tokyo offers private car transport from Haneda or Narita, costing around $335 and $520, respectively.

However, given that public transit in Tokyo is safe, quick, reliable and clean, we’d recommend simply taking the train from the airport to the hotel.

While the Aman Tokyo may cost more than most hotels, its design, incredible city views and luxurious amenities make it a special hotel in the heart of Tokyo’s financial district that’s worth checking out, even if just for a cocktail or massage.
