Charlotte, North Carolina Local News
Hot and humid with severe storms possible this afternoon
[ad_1]
A wetter pattern over the next week will give much of the Carolinas a break from the heat.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
Today
After an overall cloudy (and for some places foggy) morning clouds will break later into the afternoon. Today will be a partly sunny to mostly cloudy afternoon. Today is not a Weather Aware Day but there is still a chance for thunderstorms. Even though our area isn’t under a designated severe weather risk, an isolated severe thunderstorm or two is not out of the question. Highs will be much cooler in the mid 80s, which is a nice break from a record first half of July.
The best chances for storms really looks to be after 5 p.m. this afternoon with the best coverage for storms being through the evening. Rain could linger for some into the early morning hours, leaving again a chance for some morning fog on Saturday morning.
The Weekend
This trend continues for much of this weekend and through next week. While more widespread rain chances will help for the local drought conditions, there’s the risk for localized flooding next week. Saturday the front will be just outside of the WCNC viewing area which could limit the amount of storms seen in the afternoon moving the better chance for storms to the evening.
Sunday will have a slightly better chance for storms as the front draws in closer. Highs remain in the mid to upper 80s both days.
Next Week Notes:
- Every day looks to trend in the mid to upper 80s
- Tuesday could touch 90°
- Most days start off dry with storm chances increasing through the afternoon
- Early evenings will be the most active most days
- Every day will be very humid, muggy and likely wearing the air
