According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Charlotte Hornets have received permission to interview G League Coach of the Year Lindsey Harding for their head coaching vacancy.

Harding had a standout career as a player at Duke before spending ten years playing professionally both in the WNBA and overseas. She joined the Sacramento Kings as an assistant in 2019 and served in that role before taking over as the head coach of the team’s G League affiliate in Stockton. In her one season leading the Stockton Kings, the team amassed a league best 24-10 record before losing in the Conference Finals to the Oklahoma City Blue.

All of that happened in a season in which one of the team’s players, Chance Comanche, was arrested and charged with murder for an incident that occurred during the season on a night immediately after the team played a road game that Comanche started. Harding helped navigate that unprecedented situation and kept the team together and thriving.

If the Hornets were to hire Harding, she’s be the first female head coach in NBA history.
