An early morning high-speed chase in the Western Division resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of a quantity of marijuana worth an estimated $1.3 million today.

In a statement the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said officers of the Division along with the Coastal and Riverine and Air Support Units were on patrol around 1:10 am, on September 29, 2023 in the Chaguaramas district, when they observed a white pirogue docked close to the shoreline.

The officers also observed a white X-Trail motor vehicle with two male occupants parked a short distance away.

On seeing the officers, the men drove off and a chase ensued which ended with the vehicle being intercepted along Abbe Poujade Road.

A search of the vehicle resulted in two crocus bags containing 48.94 kilogrammes of marijuana being found and seized.

Police said the drug has an estimated street value of $1.3 million.

The TTPS said two suspects, ages 41 and 30, both of St. Augustine, were arrested in connection with the find.

Investigations are ongoing into the above matter.

Commissioner of Police, Erla Harewood-Christopher praised the quick and diligent work of the officers in making the arrests and seizure.

She noted that there is increased collaboration among the various Units and Branches of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) with the aim of dismantling the illicit trade networks which continue to contribute to criminal activities in the…
