CHATEAUROUX, France (KTXL) – She took her shot, literally.
U.S. Army Sgt. Sagen Maddalena, a two-time Olympian, is now an Olympic silver medalist after she finished in second place on Friday in women’s 50m rifle 3 positions.
Maddalena, who broke the Olympic record during qualification, had a total of 463.0.
Chiara Leone from Switzerland won gold with a total of 464.4, a new Olympic record, while Qiongyue Zhang from China won bronze with a total of 452.9.
Sagen Maddalena was born in Woodland, and she now lives in Groveland. She is representing the United States in three events at the Paris Olympics: women’s 10m air rifle, 10m mixed team air rifle and the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions.
She finished in fourth place in women’s 10m air rifle, just missing out on the podium in that event.
A graduate of the University of Alaska Fairbanks where she was a seven-time all-American, Maddalena enlisted in March of 2019. She was assigned to the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit as a shooter/instructor.
