The Durham Fire Department responded to a gas leak involving a propane tank Thursday afternoon.

Before 3 p.m., emergency crews, including the gas company, were on the scene at Angier Avenue near Pleasant Drive.

Sky 5 flew over the scene, capturing video of the evacuated area.

Residents within a quarter-mile radius of the leaking propane tank, from Cortes Street to Jones Circle, have been asked to leave, according to the Durham Fire Department.

The leak has also caused delays for buses operating near I-885 and Miami Boulevard.

Angier Avenue is expected to be closed between Cortez Drive and Jones Circle until around 10 p.m.

North Carolina Central University issued a campus alert for students and staff saying:

“Due to suspicion of a gas leak, the Shepard Admin Bldg is currently being evacuated. Additional details will be provided when available.”
