Fujitsu Japan Unveils AI-Powered Design Audit System for Water Supply Facilities

Fujitsu Japan, in collaboration with the Kobe City Waterworks Bureau, has developed an innovative AI-powered design audit system specifically for water supply facility construction designs. This cutting-edge solution, named the AI Audit Application, marks a first in Japan and will be available starting July 1, 2024. The AI Audit Application automates and streamlines the auditing process by automatically detecting water supply facility symbols and other relevant information from construction designs. This advanced system is set to revolutionize the way audits are conducted, significantly reducing manual workload and enhancing accuracy.

Kobe City Waterworks Bureau has been at the forefront of initiatives aimed at improving convenience for construction contractors. They have previously introduced electronic applications and remote auditing for household water supply facility projects. However, the sheer volume of applications, approximately 6,000 annually, has heavily burdened the resources allocated for manual design audits.

Leveraging AI-powered image analysis technology, the AI Audit Application can detect around 30 types of water supply facility symbols, including details such as pipe diameter, type, and installation year. The system then displays the detected information on the design along with a comprehensive list, allowing staff to conduct a final audit based on the city’s water supply facility construction standards.

This innovative system is poised to drastically reduce the workload for audit staff, shorten audit times, and improve the precision of construction designs through consistent correction instructions to contractors.
