Three additional arrests have been made following a deadly Hillsborough robbery in March.

Jerry Lee Driggers, 58, was shot twice on March 3 after intruders broke into his home on U.S. Highway 70 West, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Driggers died at Duke University Hospital while he was in surgery.

Demarcus Tatum, 28, Christopher Hamlett, 49, and Scotty Pleasants, 42, all face first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree kidnapping and felony conspiracy charges. Investigators also charged Tatum with possession of a firearm by a felon.

The three men were arrested between late July and mid-August as investigators followed leads. They are currently in the Orange County Detention Center being held without bond.

Clarence Brandon Hayes, 28, of Durham, was arrested in March in a parking lot near the scene of the crime. Investigators said Hayes was shot by Driggers as he confronted the burglars.

Hayes pleaded guilty in July to second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree kidnapping, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, felony conspiracy and injury to real property. He is awaiting sentencing.

Investigators said other residents inside Driggers’ home were held at gunpoint in March but not physically harmed.
