Four brush fires ignite near Highway 17 in Campbell

(KRON) — Four small brush fires ignited near Highway 17 in Campbell on Monday, the Santa Clara County Fire Department said. The cause of the fires is under investigation.

The fires were reported at about 5:30 p.m. between Campbell Avenue and Hamilton Avenue. Only fencing was destroyed before firefighters quelled the blaze.

The fires stalled northbound traffic on the freeway, blocking lanes for more than an hour as fire crews treated the scene. Smoke was visible to drivers and the ground around the highway was burned.
