(FOX40.COM) — The foster mother of Roseville twin brothers who died after drowning in a swimming pool in October 2023 turned herself in to law enforcement on Monday afternoon and is facing charges related to their death, according to the Roseville Police Department and the Placer County District Attorney’s Office.
Law enforcement officials told FOX40.com that the warrant for the arrest of Schitara Victoria Page, 37, was issued Thursday and she turned herself in to Roseville Police on Monday.
According to a complaint filed in Placer County Superior Court, Page is facing two charges of “cruelty to child by abuse, neglect or endangering health,” with each count having a special allegation of willful harm or injury resulting in death.
The charges come eight months after the death of 22-month-old twins Justice and Sincere Strong.
Placer County DA Morgan Gire said to FOX40.com, “The counts represent the neglect, the failure to supervise and, ultimately, that resulting in the death of these two very young little boys…”
“Ultimately, the question is, is she liable and legally responsible for the deaths of those two children?” Gire continued. “And after an extensive investigation, the answer to that question in our opinion, is yes. We felt that we had the evidence to prove both counts against her, beyond a reasonable doubt to a jury, so the charges were filed.”
The boys’ biological grandmother, Lakisha Strong, said to FOX40.com that she is grateful for the arrest and says the suspect will now have to answer for the death of her grandsons.
“Them babies deserved way more in their life than what they got,” Strong said. “They were issued a bad hand and now they’re smiling down, I’m sure.”
“It’s not going to justify the means of what happened, it’s not going to bring the twins back, but it’s going to wake her up to realize when you take on a responsibility as she did as a foster parent, then you need to be a responsible parent, foster parent, any time you’re caring for anybody,” Strong said.
