FORT MYERS, Fla. — Fort Myers neighbors made an interesting discovery this week. A boat was dumped right off of U.S. 41 along a service road.

Neighbors in the area who drive past this every day say it looks like the boat was more or less docked on land and left there.

At first, they thought it was funny — but they would like this safety hazard removed.

“I thought it was rather comical and I drove right on up here to see this thing,” Ralph Czekalinski said.

Czekalinski is on the condo association’s board. He said they have called the county already.

It’s certainly not something you see every day.

“It’s scary how people just don’t care about anything and just drop the boat off in the middle of nowhere,” said Jan Harr, an Estero resident.

Neighbors think the culprit used a tree and rope to pull the boat off of the trailer.

It can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars to properly dispose of an old boat.

“Sometimes gets a lot of weird stuff dumped,” Czekalinski said.

This wasn’t the first odd thing Czekalinski or his other neighbors have seen along this access road.

“We actually had an 8-person hot tub dumped here,” he said.

And before that, they saw a bag of dead chickens.

“At night or driving along… you hit that and you’re dead,” Harr said.

They hope the county can find the owner of the boat by the registration number still on the front. Or if not, they hope Lee County can remove it soon.

We reached out to the county, they said they are aware of this boat and they are looking into it.
