Elk Grove Unified School District officials say they placed 49-year-old David Martinez Jr. on administrative leave before he was arrested.

ELK GROVE, Calif. — A former campus supervisor for an Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) elementary school was recently arrested for allegedly touching and inappropriately communicating with an 11-year-old, according to police.

The school district received allegations regarding 49-year-old David Martinez Jr. after a student reported them to a staff member at Helen Carr Castello Elementary School, Elk Grove Police Department officials said Tuesday.

After notifying Elk Grove police, school district officials say they placed Martinez on administrative leave. The 49-year-old also served the after-school program at Franklin Elementary.

Detectives allege he was communicating in a sexual nature with an 11-year-old and touching them with sexual intent.

After an arrest warrant was issued, Martinez turned himself into the Sacramento County Main Jail Monday and is currently being held on a $200,000 bail.

“The Elk Grove Unified School District’s top priority is the safety and well-being of its students. Staff, students, and community members are asked to report any suspected instances of abuse or neglect as soon as possible to school officials or law enforcement,” said EGUSD in a statement.

The Elk Grove Police Department is asking anyone with information related to this investigation to call the Elk Grove Police Department Investigations Bureau at 916-627-3718.
