This past weekend the Flyers entered the 2024 NHL Entry Draft with ten picks in the seven rounds. General Manager Danny Briere attempted to move up in the draft order by working out a deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets, which never went through. Columbus ended up take the second best center in the draft, Cayden Lindstrom. The night started with the San Jose Sharks who had the first selection which they used to take the number on prospect Macklin Celebrini. The Flyers were then on the clock for the 12th selection, which they trade to the Minnesota Wild for the 13th pick and Minnesota’s 3rd rounder in 2025. Minnesota took defensemen Zeev Buium. The Flyers would then get the center they were looking for in Jett Luchanko. They Flyers would make a few more trade through out the two day draft, including moving the 32nd overall pick to the Edmonton Oilers for their 2025 1st round selection. On the second day of the draft the Flyers acquired the 59th overall selection from Nashville in exchange for the 2025 3rd rounder they received from Minnesota the day before. In the last trade of the day the Flyers sent the 150th and 177th overall pick to Calgary in for the 107th pick. In the end the Flyers walked out of the Sphere in Las Vegas with seven new members of the orange and black.

Heading into next years draft, which is supposed to be deeper then this years, the Flyers currently have eleven picks. Including three in the first round and another three in the second.

Before the draft the Flyers bought forward Cam Atkinson out of the last year of his contract. Atkinson missed the entire 2022-23 season from a herniated disk in his neck. Through 70 games last season Atkinson scored 13 goals and recorded 15 assists. This was done in attempt to free up roster spots for the upcoming free agency window which opens on July 1st.

Heading into free agency the Flyers sent qualifying offers to forward Bobby Brink and defensemen Yegor Zamula for the club to retain negotiating rights to the restricted free agents. While not offering qualifying orders to the defensemen of Mason Millman and Will Zmolek letting them test the markets of free agency. Other Flyers players who will be free agents at noon on Monday the 1st will be Denis Gurianov, Marc Staal, Erik Johnson, Cooper Marody, Adam Brooks, Tanner Laczynski, Victor Mete, and Felix Sandstrom. While Carter Hart will also be officially off the team on Monday at noon.

Heading into free agency the Flyers will have $4.32 million dollars to work with which is the 3rd lowest in the league.
