Fires in San Jose consume 8 acres, damage home

SAN JOSE — A pair of blazes kept San Jose firefighters busy Thursday afternoon and evening.
The first fire ignited around 3:40 p.m. in a field near Component Drive and North First Street, according to the San Jose Fire Department.
The blaze was knocked down roughly two hours later, but not before it consumed eight acres, the fire department said. No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged.
Just before 7 p.m., a second fire was reported in the 8100 block of Monterey Road, according to the fire department. The blaze was placed under control at 9:15 p.m.
The fire damaged a home and two outbuildings, displacing half a dozen residents, the fire department said. No one was injured.
The cause of each fire is under investigation.
