Family of Tommy Clark, a 54-year-old from Manteca, say he was a loving father, grandfather and brother.

LATHROP, Calif. — Family members are identifying the man who went missing after a boat capsized on the San Joaquin River near Lathrop Thursday.

Family of Tommy Clark, a 54-year-old from Manteca, say he was a loving father, grandfather and brother.

“He was just amazing. He’d help anybody that needed help. He was just the type of person that would take the shirt off his back to help you,” said daughter Brittany Smith. “He was so funny… he was so easy to talk to. He didn’t judge anybody.”

Smith says her fathers favorite hobby was fishing and he was a mechanic and handyman.

Family says Tommy Clark went out for a night of fishing with a friend, that’s when police say their boat capsized and knocked them into the river. Neither man was wearing a life vest.

One man made it out, but Tommy Clark still hasn’t been found. The family says the man is a close friend and has been supportive as everyone grieves.

“Just the thought that I’m not gonna be able to see him any more, hangout with him, talk with him, throw some curveballs,” said brother Bob Clark.

“He was a great man and he would always help my brother and sister and me in hard times. We would always hang out,” said grandson Sylas Debarros.

San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Coast Guard were on scene searching for Tommy Clark the day the boat capsized. Officials tell ABC10 they’re still searching for him, but they’ve “exhausted all of our underwater search efforts” and will continue doing surface checks.

The family set up a GoFundMe to help in their independent search efforts. Find the GoFundMe HERE.
