BOULDER, Colo. (KDVR) — Boulder fire investigators are still trying to confirm whether a garage explosion over the weekend was sparked by an electrical vehicle.

Boulder Fire-Rescue was called on Saturday morning to Emerald Road. When they arrived, smoke was showing, and then there was an explosion, according to authorities. A Boulder Fire-Rescue spokesperson confirmed a Volvo electric SUV was inside the garage.

Boulder Fire-Rescue was called out to Emerald Road for a fire alarm before an electric vehicle exploded in a garage.

Todd Bower, a Metropolitan State University of Denver adjunct professor of fire and emergency response administration, said fires caused by electric vehicles are not that common.

“While they have a great benefit for a lot of reasons, they do have side effects, too,” Bower said.

Nobody was hurt in the incident.
