Edgecombe, Nash, Wilson Counties under Tornado Warning

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a tornado Warning for the following areas:
- Northeastern Nash County
- Southwestern Edgecombe County
- Northeastern Wilson County
The warning is in place until 12:45 p.m.. People are urged to take cover now.
The NWS reported that at 12:15 p.m. a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 7 miles east of Elm City, or 9 miles southeast of Rocky Mount, moving northwest at 45 miles per hour. Radar has indicated rotations in the area.
NWS said this dangerous storm will be near Rocky Mount, Elm City, Dortches, and Nashville. Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include Pinetops, Red Oak, Kingsboro, Tar River Reservoir, and Sharpsburg.
People in these areas should move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
