ROCK HILL, S.C. — Rock Hill has seen its fair share of rain from Hurricane Helene. York County Emergency management says the City has been in good shape, but that could change as the night goes on.
Emergency management confirmed some parts of the City have received more than three inches of rain. York County Emergency Management director Chuck Haynes said he expects heavy rains to continue with winds as high as 50 mph. Haynes said crews will be on standby throughout the early morning hours of Friday to respond to calls for downed trees and power lines.
“As the heavier bands move through, those areas will see some flash flooding. Our crews will be out all night ready to work,” Haynes said.
Some flash floods were seen around Rock Hill on Thursday. Randy Houze, a resident on the South Side of the City, worked to secure his home from rain before Helene moves closer. Houze’s front yard has already been submerged underwater along with two of his neighbors lawns. Water also flooded into his backyard.
“It will flood everything. If you have anything in the yard, it will be in the streets,” Houze said.
The approaching Hurricane has caused many York County schools to close their doors Friday. Chester County School District, Fort Mill Schools, Rock Hill Schools, and York School District 1 have all transitioned to E-Learning day for the day.
