Duke Energy says power won’t be restored until Friday afternoon after crash causes widespread outage in Durham

A car crashed into powerlines Friday morning, knocking out power for nearly 2,000 Duke Energy customers in Durham.
The crash happened around 2:08 a.m. when a car rolled over into some powerlines near Washington Street and Macon Street.
Duke Energy said power is not expected to be restored until 2 p.m. An excessive heat warning is in effect Friday, with a forecasted high of 102 degrees.
Durham police said on X that the traffic lights are not working at the following intersections:
- Roxbroro Street from Trinity Avenue to Old Oxford Road
- East Club Boulevard from Interstate 85 to Dominion Street
WRAL News is working to learn if anyone was hurt in the crash.
