Drone display breaks world record for largest image

[ad_1]

A Guinness World Record has been set to create a stunning visual drone display. To be precise, two world records were set for “the largest number of drones flying simultaneously” and the “largest image of a light source formed by a drone”.

All together 8,100 drones took part in the record taking display.

The event took place at the Universiade Stadium in Longgang, Shenzhen, in China, this month. And you can see some of the amazing shapes in the video further below.

Thanks to the team at our sister title, AV Magazine, for highlighting this one.

Apparently, the company behind the display – Shenzhen HighGreat Innovation Technology Development Company – is based in Longgang district of Shenzhen. It has been developing drones since 2014 and has a fleet of more than 60,000 drones.

Drone display

The 18-minute show was designed by the lighting designer behind the recent Paris Olympics. It’s even more impressive than the drone display at the 20-18 Winter Olympics in South Korea, which was the first such display I remember seeing.

The movement is impressive enough – all the moving elements – for each shape, but how is the collision avoidance managed in the transitions? AI no doubt…
