The busy boat ramp at Discovery Park will be completely re-opened Tuesday morning, according to Sacramento County Regional Parks officials.Part of the ramp has been blocked for days after a houseboat caught fire early Thursday morning.Sacramento fire officials say the cause of the fire is “undetermined.” They say there is no evidence proving this was a case of arson, and that there were common combustibles found on board that could have been the cause. Demolition and excavation crews spent the day Monday taking apart and destroying the burned houseboat so that it could be removed and thrown away. All that was left as of Monday evening was the excavator and the dumpster, which will be removed Tuesday morning.Sgt. Elmer Marzan said the boat’s owner signed it over to Sacramento police so that abatement funds from the state could pay for the expensive removal.”When you have mishaps like this where boats are taking up dock space it’s problematic, especially when the weather’s supposed to get hot. One-hundred-plus degrees this week, and we’re going to have a lot of boat traffic,” Marzan told KCRA 3.He said this is one of the busiest ramps in the Sacramento region.Casey Michelle Hall said she is the daughter of the owner of the boat. She said her father bought the houseboat about six months ago with his retirement, in the hopes of repairing it and living in it. Although the family is no longer responsible for paying for the removal of the boat, Hall says they’re still waiting on insurance to hopefully help them with their losses.”We’re still out the money we paid for it and the money we put into it and the time and the emotions and the memories that we would build,” she told KCRA 3.She said her father and sister couldn’t come to see the boat be demolished due to it being too emotional for the family.”It was a great boat,” she said. “It was a great little family boat.”See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app.
