NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH, N.C. (WNCT) — The search for a missing 14-year-old boy in the New River Inlet continues into the third day Saturday.

Officials said the boy went missing Thursday, the same day his brother was rescued by a nearby boater.

Multiple law enforcement agencies and fire departments, as well as the U.S. Marine Corps, and drones are involved in the search.

The town of North Topsail Beach said active search efforts lasted until 4 p.m. Thursday after two Goldsboro brothers waded into the water, about 50 yards from shore, in the early afternoon.

A boater in the area helped rescue one of the brothers soon after they got into trouble in the water.

The search resumed Friday morning and continued on Friday, according to North Topsail Beach Town Manager Alice Derian.

Derian said the entire New River Inlet was searched, including surrounding ocean waters. The North Topsail Beach Police Department also continued with checks throughout Thursday night.

North Topsail Beach officials said a total of four water rescue calls occurred along the 12-mile stretch of the beach on Thursday.

The search has also included a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter.
