CLEVELAND (WJW) – Cleveland State University is paying tribute to Megan Keleman, an alumni and former staff member who was killed in a suspected murder-suicide outside the Taco Bell in Stow this week.

The 25-year-old Stow woman was shot and killed after reportedly pulling in front of another driver in the drive-thru line on Graham Road Wednesday evening.

Investigators say the shooter, an 53-year-old Cuyahoga Falls man, shot her in the neck before turning the gun on himself.

Keleman recently graduated from CSU, finishing her Master of Business Administration in May. Before that, she earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and financial management services, the university confirmed.

CSU President Laura Bloomberg shared a message on the university’s website Saturday, honoring Keleman by listing some of her accomplishments.

“During her time as a student, Megan was an active leader on campus,” the message said.

Keleman worked in the CSU Office of Undergraduate Admissions for more than six years, was a founding member and president of the sorority Alpha Sigma Alpha, served as president of the Panhellenic Association, was involved in student government and was the editor-in-chief of The Cauldron, according to the university.

“We send our deepest sympathies to Megan’s family, friends and loved ones,” the message continued. “We have lost a caring, engaged and optimistic member of the CSU community. As a talented writer, Megan herself once provided advice on handling such tragic situations, and I suggest we all consider her words. ‘Happiness is forceful,’ she wrote in a 2020 article for The Cauldron. ‘Surrounding yourself with positive people is a great way to help you in challenging times because their happiness is contagious.’ Be kind to yourself and each other in the days ahead.”

Keleman worked at Shelter Care Inc. in Tallmadge for the past two years, helping runaway, homeless and at-risk youths.

She also volunteered with the nonprofit Girls on the Run. The organization released a statement on Facebook Friday.

“Our staff is heartbroken over the loss of our longtime volunteer, Megan Keleman,” the statement said. “Megan was a resident of Stow, volunteer Girls on the Run coach in Hudson and a member of our fall 5K committee. Our council is honored to have worked with her since 2017 and our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time.”

A candlelight vigil will be held honoring Keleman on the front lawn of Stow City Hall, 3760 Darrow Road, at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Police officials said there’s no indication that Kelemen and the gunman, identified as Jason Williams, knew each other.
