Crystal Asige Emotionally Protests Removal of Hawkers with Disabilities from CBD: “Hatutaki Kubeg” – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

• Senator Crystal Asige has led a crowd of physically impaired hawkers to protest against Nairobi county for evicting them from the CBD
• During the demos, the visually impaired senator spoke emotionally and said that they did not want to beg but just to provide for their families
• According to the hawkers, they have been lumped together with other able-bodied hawkers and kicked out of the CBD

Nominated senator Crystal Asige led an emotional protest against Nairobi county government for its decision to lump them as hawkers and kick them out of the Central Business District.

Asige is visually impaired

Asige, who is visually impaired, was flanked by people who are physically challenged in various ways, and she decried the decision in an emotional speech delivered in the heart of the CBD.

“I don’t understand why the county government, the capital city of Nairobi, would push people with disabilities to get out of the city, from empowering themselves and taking care of their kids,” she said.
