CLEVELAND (WJW) — City road crews are now digging grooves into major intersections in order to deter stunt driving during street takeovers.

Street milling involves grinding streets to “intentionally create a rough, uneven road surface making it difficult for cars to perform stunts” like doughnuts or burnouts, reads a Thursday news release from Cleveland police.

It’s a tactic other cities have used to curb stunting, according to the release.

“Street takeovers are dangerous not only to those participating, but also for the general public in the area,” Police Chief Dorothy Todd is quoted in the release.

Anyone with information on street takeovers is urged to call 216-623-5474 or email police@clevelandohio.gov.
