LODI, Calif. — The City of Lodi has adopted new policies after a two-year-old Husky was tased to death by police in 2023.

According to police, Enzo, a two-year-old Husky, was reportedly chasing and trying to a bite a family with young children on Jan. 24, 2023. He allegedly followed the family to their home on Sandpiper Circle and later interacted with police and animal services on Finch Run and Robin Lane.

Officials said an animal services officer tried to use a snare twice, but Enzo broke loose both times. Officers responded to help, but after police said the “aggressive dog approached a group of individuals” who were in front of their home, authorities used a taser to stun the dog and to let animal services secure him.

The dog died after being tased. In surveillance video, the dog is seen being tased twice before being dragged to an animal services vehicle.

The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office said no charges were warranted and the officer used a reasonable amount of force.

After the dog’s death, the City said Lodi Police Department has made changes to the way these situations are handled.

“In response to Enzo’s death, the Lodi Police Department proactively ordered additional equipment, completed Department-wide animal response training with the Humane Society of the United States, and has adopted new policies with the hope that something like this would not happen again. The Galeno family and the City of Lodi have recently been able to resolve this matter,” the City of Lodi said in a news release.
