The CHP says that the collision occurred near SR-49 and Shale Ridge Road at around 6:35 a.m., when a driver ran a red light while heading southbound on SR-49 and collided with the officer, who was heading eastbound on Shale Ridge Road.

The collision caused the officer to be ejected from his motorcycle, leaving him major injuries. He was transported to a local hospital.

As the collision remains under investigation, the CHP is asking drivers to slow down and expect delays in the area of the crash.
