Chase Freedom 5% Categories for Q1 2023
Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex are great products to have in your wallet. They have no annual fee and earn Ultimate Rewards points when you have another Chase premium card. Now the Chase Freedom bonus categories have been revealed for Q1 2023. These are good categories, which Freedom and Freedom Flex cardholders can definitely use to earn extra points.
Chase Freedom Cards
The Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex cards earn 1% on all purchases but also 5% on rotating quarterly bonus categories, up to a combined $1,500 in purchases. So you can earn up to $75 every quarter, if you maximize the eligible categories. You can even have more than one Freedom card. But it gets much better than that, since the cashback can be used as Ultimate Rewards points.
To do that, you need to have one of the premium or business cards from Chase. That’s Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, Ink Business Preferred or Ink Business Plus. Then the points earned with your Chase Freedom cards can be converted into Ultimate Rewards points and transferred to travel partners.
Chase Freedom 5% Categories
The categories for the first quarter of 2023 have now been revealed. The new 5% categories include:
- Grocery Stores
- Target
- Fitness Clubs & Gym Memberships
You can earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in these categories from January 1 to March 31, 2023. You can activate the new categories here, starting on December 15, 2022. Must activate by March 14, 2023.
Guru’s Wrap-Up
Grocery Stores is a great category, as you can earn 5% cash back on one of the biggest household expenses. Target is also useful, but most people probably have a Target RedCard that already gets a 5% discount.
Don’t forget to maximize this quarter’s categories as well. You have until the end of the day to activate these categories and until end of December to spend $1,500 at:
If you don’t have the card, you can sign up and earn a $200 bonus cash back when you spend $500 within the first three months. Plus you get 5% cash back on gas station purchases on up to $12,000 spent in the first year. You can also product change other Chase cards, if you want it but don’t really want to apply for a new card, especially with the bonus being on the lower end.
