Are You Still Dating Like You Did in Your Teens and 20’s?

As A Woman Over 50, Are You Still Dating Like You Did in Your Teens and 20’s?

You can read the blog below or watch it on YouTube by clicking here.

Doesn’t it feel like just yesterday you were in high school or college?

Chances are you still wear jeans and like many women our age, your hair is probably longer than your mother’s was at this time in her life.

They used to cut their hair once they were married.

With vibrant memories of your school years still floating around in your head, it’s likely you don’t even feel or look like you’re in your 50’s, 60’s or 70’s, right?

And that’s why when you’re out there looking for Mr. Right, you may be using the same criteria as you did in your teens or 20’s.

What this means is instead of wanting the handsome football captain like you did in high school, today you’re looking for his older version . . .  a man who is successful, good looking and charming.

But when you go online with your 20-year-old mindset of Mr. Right, who pops up?

Pictures of men who look like your grandfather did with grey, thinning hair, a belly and a boatload of baggage.

No wonder it seems like no one’s out there to date – they all seem too old for you!

A couple of years ago, I remember seeing a picture on Facebook of my handsome high school sweetheart who, by the way, did play football back in the day.

    I was shocked!

The young man I remembered had long black hair and wore cool “painter’s pants.”

In my mind, I expected an older version of this 18 year old man.

Instead, there he was with snow-white hair and a suit.

Although he was still handsome, he looked just like his father.

The thing is we don’t see ourselves aging and it’s why we are so shocked when we see men our age pop up on dating sites.

I remember a man once sharing with me that he was getting ready to post his picture on a dating site and his daughter asked him, “Dad, why are you posting a picture of you from 10 years ago?”

He confided in me that the picture was how he still saw himself and he hadn’t realized his face had aged so much since it was taken.

None of us likes to think we are getting older, but we are and so are the men we are looking to date.

There are some men who have kept their looks and have aged well.

Yet there are others who haven’t.

And when they haven’t, you usually end up passing them by especially online.

Yet if you’d met that same man in real life, you might think twice about his potential because all of a sudden his personality shines and that combined with his looks can make him one handsome man in your eyes.

Attraction is important.  But more important is who he is underneath those looks.

Wouldn’t you love to be with a man who will be at your side through thick and thin?

Who you can have fun with on weekends and on vacation?

Who sees you as beautiful even as you age?

He’s out there and might possibly be one of those men who’s staring back at you online from your computer screen.

That’s why I suggest if he seems nice, to give him a chance and go on a second, third and maybe even fourth date.

He just may turn out to be the wonderful, loving man you’ve been looking for.

And if you haven’t seen it already, check out how my client Lisa found her soulmate in her 50’s by clicking here.

    Believing in you!

    Big hugs ~

  • The War on Drugs Isn’t Coming for Abortion Pills. It’s Already Here.

The War on Drugs Isn’t Coming for Abortion Pills. It’s Already Here.

The Supreme Court granted a reprieve in the far-right’s fight to upend medication abortion access—for now.

The Court on Friday stayed the order U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk had issued earlier in the month from Amarillo, Texas that purported to pull FDA approval of mifepristone, one of two drugs used in medication abortions. By putting a hold on Kacsmaryk’s lawless order, the Court has maintained the status quo regarding mifepristone access. That means it will be months, if not longer, before anti-abortion advocates will be able to weaponize the courts in their bid to restrict, if not remove entirely, access to the drug.

The ruling, frankly, was a bit of a surprise. Abortion rights advocates are not used to good news from the Supreme Court on abortion. On April 14, Alito issued a brief administrative stay that was set to expire April 19. So when Alito extended the Court’s initial order for a stay by an additional two days, advocates and court watchers braced for the worst and assumed the Court would do something to mess with medication abortion access.

Instead we got Alito’s bad-faith dissent, where he complained about the Court making policy via its shadow docket and stated with a straight face that rolling back mifepristone regulation to where it existed in 2016—a far more restricted state of access—was in reality no big deal.

Alito’s belligerent dissent aside, I’m calling that a win.

Despite the fact the win essentially maintains the status quo, there’s an emerging sense of where the fight to rebuild post-Roe abortion access is headed—or already situated.

Two years ago, my colleague Imani Gandy wrote about Purvi Patel, an Indiana woman who prosecutors would claim both self-managed an abortion and had a live birth that resulted in a dead infant, despite the obvious contradiction. How can one person both end their pregnancy and deliver a live birth that she criminally, and feloniously, neglected?

As Gandy put it, Patel’s story is a cautionary tale. And given that Kacsmaryk cited her case in his opinion—and uses it as justification to state—wrongly—that mifepristone is unsafe, Patel’s case is more than a cautionary tale now. Here are the facts of the case as described by Gandy in 2021:

In July 2013, Patel, an Indian American woman who lived at home in a conservative Hindu household, entered an emergency room outside South Bend, Indiana, while suffering heavy vaginal bleeding. She eventually admitted to her doctors that she had been pregnant and had miscarried; she told them the fetus was stillborn and that she had disposed of the remains. Medical staff at the hospital alerted the police, who went looking for the fetal remains and found them in a bag in a dumpster at a nearby Target.

The police proceeded to interrogate Patel without a lawyer present while she was still in the hospital. Police also searched her cellphone, which led them to a series of text messages in which Patel told a friend that she had ordered mifepristone and misoprostol, the two drugs used in a medication abortion, online from a pharmacy in Hong Kong. Patel, who was living at home with her parents, wanted to keep the pregnancy a secret. Prosecutors claimed that the text messages made the case for Patel’s illegal abortion and felony charges.

Prosecutors would eventually charge her with both feticide and felony neglect of a dependent, based on the theory that Patel had tried to self-induce an abortion and delivered a live infant, which then almost immediately died post-delivery. She was convicted of both counts in February 2015. (A judge would ultimately overturn her conviction, stating that she had already served enough time.)

This was former Vice President Mike Pence’s Indiana—a state that permitted prosecutors to call as an expert witness a pathologist who relied on a widely discredited “float test” to support the state’s claim that Patel delivered a live infant.

The float test is as wacky as it sounds: requiring removing a fetus’ lungs and placing them in a container of liquid to see if they float. Developed in the 17th century, it goes something like this: If the lung floats, it means the pregnancy resulted in a live birth—and it’s evidence of at least one breath of air before death. If the lung sinks, the delivery was stillborn. Indiana’s attorneys were willing to try almost anything to prosecute and convict Patel.

Since Patel’s prosecution, the stakes around self-managing abortion with pills have accelerated in both promising and terrifying ways. The ability to order abortion pills online and manage your own abortion at home, safely (medically) and discreetly has the anti-abortion movement shook. It’s easier and safer than ever before. Anti-abortion activists know that so long as abortion pills—and accurate and reliable information about how to use them—remains widely accessible, their entire crusade is doomed to fail. Abortion will be here to stay.

As abortion pills have become more available online, the surveillance state around reproductive health care has expanded at an exponential rate. That’s thanks in no small part to the reversal of Roe v. Wade last summer in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. And that expansion of the police state around abortion care has happened at the exact time as conservatives’ appetites to prosecute those who terminate their pregnancies has increased. That’s no coincidence.

The stakes are higher and more dangerous now.

Photo of abortion rights supporter wearing a shirt that says Abortion is Healthcare

Patel’s prosecution was a perfect storm of sorts. She lived in a rabidly anti-choice state that had already shown an interest in prosecuting women of color who experienced pregnancy loss and where accurate evidence-based information around pregnancy and abortion is difficult to obtain. She was a young, brown woman living with her immigrant parents in a community that exalts America. Of course prosecutors saw her as a target.

Kacsmaryk citing her case as part of his crusade to declare mifepristone unsafe and remove it from the market nationally should alarm everyone. Should he succeed, it could usher in a low-key national ban on medication abortion as it is currently practiced in this country and open the floodgates to a new wave of criminal prosecutions related to miscarriage and self-managed abortion.

    This is intentional.

Anti-abortion activists want this reality, and the resurrection of the Comstock Act—the principal statute at the heart of this attack on mifepristone availability—is their key instrument in forcing it on the rest of us. It’s no surprise they are relying on a law from the Victorian age to force a new age of state-sanctioned sexual purity on the nation. It’s also not a coincidence this is happening at the same time they’re openly and seriously discussing executing patients if they have an abortion.

There are no coincidences with the anti-abortion movement.

Mifepristone’s legal battle is far from over. The case now heads to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, which will hear arguments in mid-May. Meanwhile, lawsuits directing the FDA not to do anything that would roll back mifepristone’s availability are making their way through federal courts in both Washington state and Maryland; drug manufacturers are also separately challenging a West Virginia law that would also threaten mifepristone’s availability.

    It’s chaotic. That’s the point.

But while the Supreme Court’s decision to stay Kacsmaryk’s order is a gift of sorts, it is worth acknowledging, as Robin Marty recently pointed out, that the right has been successful in making the status quo seem like a win.

We know there is a majority of votes on the Court to do whatever the hell they want with medication abortion, the law be damned. The fact they didn’t do so in this case is more of a statement about the Court’s politics than it is a statement about the weaknesses of the anti-abortion movement’s case here specifically. The law barely matters anymore when it comes to abortion, and most of the conservative movement openly acknowledges that now.

So if there was ever a time to gather community and resources and dig in deep on contingency plans surrounding access to mifepristone, it’s now. Because the war on drugs isn’t coming for abortion pills sometime soon. It’s already here.

  • Does Your Spouse Think You’re Controlling? LISTEN TO THIS! – Marriage Helper

Does Your Spouse Think You’re Controlling? LISTEN TO THIS! – Marriage Helper

This is a recast of an episode that originally aired on November 12, 2019.

Our live caller explains: My wife left, but she left based on false perceptions. For instance, she thought I was having an affair when I am not having an affair. And, when I ask her about the false perceptions, she doesn’t want to talk about it…

…and she doesn’t want to come back home, even though we set “boundaries” together beforehand.

Dr. Joe Beam asks this caller, “Does your wife thinks you’re controlling her?” The caller responds, “Yes, but I don’t think she has a correct perception.”

Dr. Joe Beam asks this caller to evaluate the following phrases he uses with his wife. First, he tells his wife she “is not understanding things correctly.” Second, he tells his wife she “shouldn’t feel a certain way.” Dr. Joe Beam asks this caller to consider how these phrases may make his wife feel like she’s wrong, and that he doesn’t understand her.

Dr. Joe Beam instructs this caller to listen. Even if he thinks his wife is wrong, she still needs to feel heard. That is, if this caller really wants to open up communication with his wife, she needs to know he’s TRULY hearing what she feels.

If people don’t feel understood, and can’t defend themselves, they can start to pull further away. So if you’re in this situation and want your spouse to come back, a good skill is to LISTEN to your spouse, trying to UNDERSTAND how your spouse feels. This is the kind of approach that can have an impact.

And, our Client Representatives and Coaches can help understand your perspective and guide you further. It can happen, and we’d love to help!

Level Up Your Events with an Unforgettable Display of Colourful Air Dancers – Morning Lazziness

Planning an event is a tricky yet enjoyable process, and it is crucial to do it correctly because you want your attendees to have a good time, not only for advertising and promoting your brand but if there is an excellent aura there, then they will definitely leave with positive impressions and come back for your upcoming events.

Regardless of the purpose of your event, the essential aspect of it is the inviting aura, and there are numerous methods for achieving it. Among those is the proper utilization of event decor because the latter will be the most significant impression your attendees will have from your event. If the image is positive, then it is better for you.

Because there are so many decoration options, while planning your event, you must pick something that is efficient in numerous aspects and will have the best effect on your event. Inflatables, specifically colorful air dancers, are the perfect event decor since they are an impressive display and instantly elevate your events.

So, let us discuss why to use air dancers.

    They are fun and lively.

If you are organizing an event and want to increase fun and excitement, consider using vibrant air dancers in your decor. Air dancers, called sky dancers or tube men, are wind-moving inflatable figures resembling tubes. Create a custom air dancer with Floatie Kings, that perfectly matches your brand’s preferences, captures the event’s idea, and complements your individual style. Inflatables are a distinctive and striking touch to any occasion and are available in various colors and sizes. So, the floor is yours to be creative and think of how to make your air dancer more personal to your brand to ensure better relatability.

    They are versatile.

The fact that air dancers are so adaptable is one of their main advantages. They can be placed in various locations to meet your event’s particular requirements and can be utilized indoors and outdoors. For instance, recognize air dancers on either side of the stage to create a festive and vibrant mood during an outdoor music festival. Alternatively, set up air dancers near the entrance of an indoor trade expo to attract visitors as they enter.

    They have efficient usage.

Air dancers also have the advantage of being simple to set up and take down. Since they are inflatable and lightweight, installing them does not require extensive tools or gear. This indicates that you may swiftly and efficiently include them in the design of your event without expending a lot of time or cash.

    Attendees love them.

Air dancers’ effect on visitors is among the most important benefits of including them in your event decor. They may provide a feeling of enthusiasm and energy that might be challenging to recreate with other décor elements because they are amusing, playful, and engaging. Onlookers struggle to remain unenthused and joyful when watching air dancers move in the wind.

Additionally, air dancers are a fantastic method to attract attendees to your event. They can arouse curiosity and fascination, causing people to approach and investigate what’s happening because they are impossible to ignore. This might be especially helpful if you’re presenting a public event and want to draw in as many attendees as possible.

Take their shape and size into consideration.

There are several things to consider while selecting air dancers for your event. Consider the size and shape of the air dancers you want to employ first. You can pick bigger or smaller air dancers or choose ones with different forms or designs, depending on the size of your event space and the precise aesthetic you’re going for.

    Get creative with their color.

Second, think about the air dancers’ colors. Although you might be tempted to go with the most striking and brilliant colors, it’s essential to consider how the air dancers will blend into the overall theme of your event. Choose air dancers in more subdued or understated colors if you strive for a more understated or classy appearance.

    Decide on their placement.

Finally, consider where to put the air dancers. As was already noted, air dancers can be arranged in several different ways to meet the demands of your event. However, to have the most significant impact, you must plan where to put them. To increase their visibility, close them too busy locations like entrances or performance areas.

To sum up, air dancers are a distinctive, playful, and enjoyable element to any event. They may elicit a feeling of enthusiasm and energy that is difficult to achieve with other decor items because they are simple to set up and take down and available in various sizes and colors. Consider including vibrant air dancers in your decor to take your event to the next level and make it unique.

Mastering the Art of Flirting: Teasing and Creating Sexual Tension

Flirting is a playful and subtle way to express interest in someone and build sexual tension.

To become a master of flirting, consider the following tips based on scientific research:

    • Use gentle teasing: Playful teasing can be an effective flirting tactic, as it fosters a sense of closeness and creates a fun, lighthearted atmosphere. Teasing allows you to test the waters of a potential romantic connection with a woman without fear of rejection. Just be sure to keep it light and avoid crossing the line into hurtful or offensive territory.
    • Employ the power of touch: Subtle, non-threatening touch can be a powerful flirting tool. Studies have shown that even brief instances of physical contact can increase feelings of attraction and connection. Try lightly touching the person’s arm during conversation or guiding them through a door with a gentle hand on their back.
    • Use playful banter: Engaging in witty and playful banter can create a dynamic and exciting atmosphere, which may increase the likelihood of a romantic connection. Be confident, relaxed, and listen actively to create opportunities for spontaneous, lighthearted exchanges.

By learning how to tease women, you will no longer enter into platonic relationships and instead date the women you desire.

Understanding Attraction: The Psychology Behind Romantic Connections

Attraction is a complex interplay of various factors, including physical appearance, personality, and shared interests.

To increase your chances of making a lasting connection, consider these psychological principles:

    • The similarity-attraction effect: Numerous studies have demonstrated that people are more likely to be attracted to those who share similar beliefs, values, and interests. Find common ground with the women you meet to promote a sense of connection.
    • Reciprocal liking: It turns out that simply knowing someone is attracted to us can increase our own attraction towards them. This phenomenon, known as reciprocal liking, suggests that expressing genuine interest in someone can boost your appeal.
    • The halo effect: This cognitive bias leads us to perceive physically attractive people as having other positive qualities, such as intelligence and kindness. While physical attraction is undoubtedly important, remember to look beyond appearances and focus on shared values and personality traits.

By understanding female psychology on a deeper level, you can work out a more tailored approach to dating with a much higher success rate.

    Conclusion

    • Venture out and expand your social circle to meet like-minded women in everyday settings, bypassing the constraints of dating apps.
    • Refine your skills in playful teasing and flirting, allowing you to confidently interact with women during your day-to-day life.
    • Look beyond physical attractiveness and explore common interests, cultivating deeper connections with potential romantic partners.

  • 4 Things to Consider When Grieving Your Spiritual Mentor’s Death

4 Things to Consider When Grieving Your Spiritual Mentor’s Death

The pastor, author, and broadcaster entered his eternal home a few days ago.

Perhaps you supported In Touch Ministries or worshiped at First Baptist Church Atlanta or considered him your spiritual shepherd. It makes sense if his passing affects you.

I can relate. While I wasn’t familiar with Dr. Stanley or his ministry, my own spiritual mentor also transitioned to heaven earlier this year. Dr. Jack Hayford—founder of the King’s University and the Church on the Way, as well as a prolific author who also composed 500 songs, including Majesty—died in January.

The death of Pastor Jack Hayford and now Dr. Stanley prompted a timely question. What do we do after the death of someone we’ve fed from spiritually?

Whether you’re grieving the loss of these godly men or another spiritual giant, here are a few thoughts for your consideration.

    1. Live Their Legacy

Of all the messages your late spiritual mentor taught, is there a topic or theme that grips your heart the most? Has his or her life exemplified a notable aspect of the Word that transformed you? Then live that message out.

I’ll give you an example. The bulk of my foundational Christian beliefs came straight from Pastor Jack. But one of the most impactful lessons I caught from him had to do with his regular prayer campaigns for Los Angeles. He taught, “It’s impossible to hate those you pray for.”

Hearing this on repeat—and cutting my intercessory teeth on prayer circles, what we used to do during Sunday services—induced in me a love for prayer and LA.

The fact that I still intercede for my city, nation, and the world on a daily basis is a testament to

Pastor Jack’s ministry and his persistent emphasis on prayer.

    2. Godly Jealousy

Paul utilized this phrase in his second letter to the Corinthian church (2 Corinthians 11:2) to describe his longing for them to remain faithful to Christ. I’m using the term differently here, so I hope he’ll forgive me for repurposing his phrase.

Whenever a saint—that is, a believer in Christ—dies, I find myself feeling godly jealousy. I wish I could be in heaven too.

(As a quick aside, this is another lesson I learned from pastor Jack: that the New Testament, like Acts 26:10 and 1 Corinthians 1:2, refer to Christians as saints.)

Right now, Dr. Stanley and Pastor Jack are reveling in the presence of the Lord, no doubt hearing Him announce, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:23). I wonder if angels are ushering them into their due rewards as we speak. After all, rewards await the faithful (Isaiah 40:10, Matthew 10:41-42, Mark 9:41, Revelation 22:12).

Enjoying God’s glory forever, interacting directly with the Lover of our soul, is far more attractive than puttering around in this sin-encrusted world (Philippians 1:21). Even earth’s top vacation spots can’t compete with the joys of heaven.

However, let’s be clear. I do not long to be in heaven because I’m suicidal. By God’s grace, I intend to complete His assignments for me rather than exit the earth prematurely.

If you resonate with this intention but also feel the twinge—however slightly—of wanting to move into heaven, there’s a way to capitalize on it.

We can use this godly jealousy to motivate ourselves to run a faithful race.

All the way to the finish line.

Unfortunately, not everyone who started out as a Christian continues with their journey. I can recite names of famous Christians who, midway in their faith walk, ditched the path and, as far as I know, are still detached from the one true God.

This isn’t to mention scores of other individuals whose stories might be unknown to us but whose faith, likewise, dissolved.

Let’s not fix our eyes on them. Let’s instead focus on successful finishers like Drs. Stanley and Hayford and also, apostle Paul.

Toward the conclusion of his earthly shift, the latter remarked the following: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing” (2 Timothy 4:7-8).

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to declare “ditto” when our race is officially over?

    3. Leftover Grief

Perhaps your spiritual mentor’s passing left you feeling drained. You’ve shed more tears than anticipated. Maybe your appetite—or digestive system—has been off. Or perhaps you’re experiencing other signs of depression.

If any of the above fits, check if perhaps you’ve neglected to grieve a prior loss. Death leaves a cumulative effect on the mourner, stirring up similar emotions and memories of an earlier loss.

But a recent death will impact you more if you haven’t fully grieved that prior loss or if you’ve sustained a significant number of losses in recent history—including not just physical death or divorce, but also the loss of income or house.

So, if your spiritual mentor’s death hits you hard, consider it a 911 call from your soul. Find a trained professional to consult with.

I recommend someone who is trained in the psychology of grief and mourning.

    4. Holding the Torch

One of the characteristics of my church that I cherish the most is its multigenerational nature. Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, Gen Z, as well as the youngest one, Gen Alpha, attend our services.

There may even be a smattering of representatives from the Silent Generation.

You’ll see me nod at one of our pastors’ frequent exhortations. He insists that every generation in the church needs to mentor someone younger than them.

This is relevant to our topic because the body of Christ lost two respected generals this year. Pastor Jack died at 88, and Charles Stanley, 90.

Now that they’re no longer here, the torch—of leading the next generations, spreading the Good News, and holding each other accountable to keep maturing into Christlikeness—is in our hands.

We may never be called to found a global ministry, but that torch is still in our hands.

God may appoint us to affect areas of society our mentors hadn’t, but the torch is—you guessed it—still in our hands.

What better way to honor the passing of your spiritual mentor than to continue cultivating Kingdom values the way he or she did?

  • Why Pregnant People Are Choosing Birth Centers for Delivery

Why Pregnant People Are Choosing Birth Centers for Delivery

After months of preparing to give birth to her first child at a birthing center, T’Nika’s plans had to change: She needed a caesarean section due go her baby’s placement during delivery. As a Black woman giving birth during COVID-19, giving birth outside of a traditional hospital sounded appealing. But her baby had other plans, and due to the birthing center’s working relationship with a nearby hospital, T’Nika was quickly transferred.

T’Nika’s story is one that’s shared in the book Birth: Three Mothers, Nine Months, and Pregnancy in America, which is out today, illustrating how the number of people giving birth at birthing centers or at home has increased, especially for Black people, since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Birth, journalist Rebecca Grant writes about the journeys of three pregnant women, including T’Nika’s, all of whom have considered giving birth at a birthing center in Portland, Oregon, and the importance of pregnant people having the ability to choose the right birthing option for them.

“It’s ultimately about ensuring that people have access to the environment that is the best fit for them both in terms of the medical care that they want or need,” Grant said.

Rewire News Group chatted with Grant on her reporting on birthing centers, ethics on reporting on maternal health care in a polarized environment, the importance of an intersectional framework when looking at people’s birthing experiences, and more.

This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

Rewire News Group: Was there a moment in your own reporting and/or life that drew you to wanting to focus more on birthing centers?

Rebecca Grant: When I first started covering kind of this beat, most of my work was focused on abortion. As I was doing that reporting, I started to cover more stories about maternal health care as well. A lot of the themes that came up in the reporting that I did on abortion were also deeply relevant to conversations about maternal health care. As I was reporting on maternal health care, I was sort of introduced to the concept of midwives; not that they weren’t on my radar, but just as sort of an avenue that I might look into. That was how I found birth centers or became interested in birth centers through the portal of midwives.

In terms of the books specifically, there were a couple of reasons why birth centers appealed to me. I liked that it was sort of like a halfway between the home and the hospital. When I was first conceiving of the book, one of my ideas had been to focus on three different women or three different stories, but maybe have one be at home, one be at a birth center, and one be at a hospital, too, because I was really interested in the different experiences and histories across environments. In an effort to sort of have more cohesion, and for there to be a specific setting for the book, I thought birth centers made sense because it’s this halfway point.

RNG: Pregnancy and giving birth has become such a politicized topic. Could you talk about the importance of an active, ongoing journalistic consent process in your reporting?

RG: When I was just at the birth center, shadowing some of the midwives or just meeting people who are coming in and out, I would always have either myself or the midwife that I was spending time with introduce me and check with the client before an appointment if it was OK for me to be in the room. In almost all cases, the client said that it was fine—one or two times they said no, and I would just go wait out in the lobby. I would be really clear about sort of what I was doing and if they were going to be identified, what that process would look like.

Then with the three main characters, I had really long conversations with each of them about what would be involved in terms of the time commitment, in terms of me digging around into there, let you know, “I’m going to want to look at your medical records, I’m going to want to talk to your mom or your partner, I’m going to want to sit in on appointments, if I can,” so that there weren’t any surprises. I had told each of them that if they wanted to go by a pseudonym, that was something we could talk about—not go by their real first names—but they all chose to go by their first names. That was something I would also check in about periodically.

In terms of the content, I tried to be really clear the whole time of, “If there’s anything that you don’t want to be included, just let me know, or we’ll talk about it, that’s fine.” For the most part, they were just incredibly open in a way that I really appreciated. I think it was interesting, conversations Jillian and I would have, because consent is such a big part of midwifery practice and practicing informed consent and asking people for their permission for everything. That was kind of an interesting commonality to identify, it was that me constantly checking in and that way, it was something that she was also trained to do as a midwife.

RNG: Two out of the three women who planned to give birth at a birthing center then had complications, which led them to be transferred. Did this change your approach in writing this book?

RG: The transfer rate for first-time mothers who give birth or first-time people who give birth outside of a hospital is relatively high, so just statistically speaking, I was maybe expecting that one person might make a transfer.

I think that there was a fact that each of the moves that just speaks to that complexity, and that unpredictability in a way that I felt like was really important. Even if you are planning to go to a hospital and that’s where you end up giving birth, that doesn’t mean that everything is going to go according to plan even if you don’t move locations. A lot of people who I’ve interviewed over the years have grappled with feeling like a failure when things don’t go according to plan. So being able to portray people who things didn’t go to plan, but it ended up being OK, it ended up being what they needed. I was grateful that I was able to include that sort of complexity in there.

One of the kind of arguments that the book makes around how to improve our maternal health-care system is about the importance of smooth integration and relationships between midwives and birth centers, and out-of-hospital providers with doctors and hospitals so that transfers can happen smoothly—both medically speaking and just in terms of how people are treated. And, so, I think that the fact that everyone kind of moves locations, also just emphasize[s] that point as well.

RNG: What resources were the most helpful for you in learning and understanding the history of midwifery in the United States, including anti-Black laws making this practice more difficult to do in some states?

RG: I would say some books that I either read or reread were Killing the Black Body by Dorothy Roberts; I read a whole slew of midwife memoirs, like Listen to Me Good, which was a memoir from Margaret Charles Smith [and Linda Janet Holmes], and Motherwit by Onnie Lee Logan. That was their firsthand experiences of being African American grand midwives in the South during this period, when a lot of these laws that were trying to phase midwives out in a very targeted way were coming. You’re able to sort of understand what it was like to get this letter from the health department and find out that your license wasn’t going to be renewed.

Then, also, a lot of drawing on interviews and articles and speeches of people like Dr. Joia Adele Crear-Perry, who’s the founder of the National Birth Equity Collaborative.

RNG: Why is it important that journalists include external factors that could impact people’s lived experiences? I appreciated that throughout this book, there was an emphasis on how anti-Black racism in medicine shaped one woman being drawn to the birthing centers, as well as the fact that COVID-19 was and continues to make going to hospitals potentially dangerous for pregnant people.

RG: We’re all affected and shaped by our environment, and that has an impact on our health. I would also venture to say that it’s particularly strong when it comes to pregnancy and birth, because those aren’t just medical events. They’re also social and cultural and emotional events. They touch so many aspects of lives. Once you start digging, nothing is happening in a vacuum. Everything is interconnected. These are the sort of ideas that people like Loretta Ross and Kimberlé Crenshaw have been saying for and advocating for decades. Any kind of reproductive justice organization that applies that framework to their work is always looking at so many different factors that are at play. There’s no one answer to the question “Why are our outcomes the way that they are? Or why are the disparities as persistent?”

I think one of the things that COVID did was it changed the risk calculus for a lot of people because for a lot of people, there’s been this idea that the hospital is the safest place to be to give birth. But, in early COVID, people were worried about diseases spreading, or they’re worried about being separated from their baby, they’re worried about not being able to have a support person with them. I think that that led to a change in sort of weighing the pros and cons for some people that maybe wouldn’t have happened or would have happened on a slower timeline.

    2. Pool Games for Two or More Players
    3. Pool Games for Bigger Groups

Pool Games for Two or More Players

    1. Noodle Joust

Items Needed: 2 pool noodles and 2 kickboards/floats

Number of Players: 2 or more

How to Play: Each player sits on a kickboard or float and tries to knock the other player off their kickboard and into the water using their pool noodle. Whoever knocks the other player into the water wins! If this is too easy, try kneeling or standing on the kickboard!

    2. Tea Party

    Items Needed: goggles

Number of Players: 2 or more

How to Play: Kids love this game! The point is to have a “tea party” or “picnic” at the bottom of the shallow end. Players will begin the party by choosing what they will do first. For example, they can choose to spread out a blanket to sit on. Then, players will take a deep breath, go underwater, and pretend to spread a blanket on the bottom of the pool before coming up for air. Other ideas include setting up the blanket with plates and cups or placing food on the plates. Play continues until they finally get to enjoy their “tea” or “picnic.” Players will take a deep breath, go underwater, and try to sit “criss-cross applesauce” on their “blanket.” They will pretend to drink “tea” and blow bubbles out of their mouths. This game usually results in lots of giggles!

    3. Corners

    Items Needed: goggles

    Number of Players: 2

How to Play: This game is best played in the deep end of the pool. Find a corner of the pool and choose which player will swim first. The other player will face towards the corner of the pool and spread their arms and legs out (like a star). They will hold onto the sides of the pool with their hands, and their feet will be against the walls of the pool underwater. For the first challenge, the swimmer will begin in the corner of the pool, swim under the other player’s legs, and come up for air behind them. They will then swim back under their legs to the corner again.

The object of the game is to not touch any parts of the other player’s body while swimming. If the swimmer bumps or touches any part of the other player’s body, they switch places. If the player successfully completes the challenge without touching, they will move on to a more difficult challenge. The game gets progressively more difficult as the players come up with more challenges, like swimming through the side of their arms and legs, swimming in a circle around the player, or swimming under and back without coming up for air in the middle.

    4. Classic Cannonball Contest

    Items Needed: None

Number of Players: At least 2, but it’s more fun with lots of people!

How to Play: Have a classic cannonball contest, but make sure to do it in the deep end! Take turns jumping off the diving board or the side of the pool. The person who makes the biggest splash is the winner!

    5. Dishwasher

    Items Needed: None

    Number of Players: 3

How to Play: This is a dunking game, so make sure all players are okay with dunking before playing! First, one person is chosen to be “it.” He/she walks away for a moment while the other two players quietly agree upon a color. When a color is chosen, the person who is “it” comes back to the group. The other players hold the “it” player between them, with their head held on one side and their legs held with their other arms.

The “it” player then tries to guess the color the other two players chose. If the player gets it wrong, the other two players tip the “it” player backward and dunks their head briefly in the water. The color guessing continues until they guess correctly. When this happens, the other two players completely tip the “it” player backward and let go, so the “it” player does a backward somersault in the water. Switch turns and play again!

    Kids love playing

    6. Follow the Leader

    Items Needed: None

Number of Players: 2 or more players

How to Play: This game is simple and is played just like it sounds. Take turns being the leader. The leader will do something in the pool, and the other players have to take turns imitating the action. Switch leaders after each player gets a turn to do the first person’s action. This game is especially fun on a diving board! You could even have a person judge the actions or dives to see who did the best.

    Play
Kids jump off the side of a pool while playing “Follow the Leader” pool games.

    7. Treasure Hunt

Items Needed: Goggles, Treasure (many items that can sink)

Number of Players: 2 or more players

How to Play: It’s time to dive for treasure! Someone throws the “treasure” into the pool, and when they say, “Go!” all players dive into the pool to gather up as much “treasure” as they can. They can place what they find on the side of the pool and dive for more until all the “treasure” has been found. Whoever finds the most “treasure” wins!

    8. Invisible Bottle

Items Needed: empty clear 2-liter soda bottle

Number of Players: At least 2 players

How to Play: Fill up the clear soda bottle with pool water and put the cap back on. While the players’ backs are turned, one non-player will throw the bottle into the pool. When the non-player says, “Go!” the rest of the players will turn around and jump into the pool and try to find the bottle. The clear water bottle will blend in perfectly with the pool water making this a lot more challenging than it seems! The person who finds the soda bottle wins!

    Play
A clear plastic soda bottle bobbing in the water is used for fun diving pool games.

    Pool Games for Bigger Groups

    9. Mr. Shark, what time is it?

    Items Needed: None

Number of Players: At least 4 players, but also good for large groups

How to Play: One person is chosen to be Mr. Shark. Mr. Shark stands at one end of the pool and faces all the other fish (or players) he plans to eat for dinner. The fish yell, “Mr. Shark, what time is it?” Mr. Shark can respond with 1 o’clock, 2 o’clock, 3 o’clock, etc. The number Mr. Shark says is the number of steps the fish will take toward Mr. Shark. Keep playing until the fish begin to get very close to Mr. Shark. At that point, when the fish ask, “Mr. Shark, what time is it?” Mr. Shark will respond with, “Dinner time!” All the fish will try to swim back to the other side, and Mr. Shark will try to tag someone. If Mr. Shark tags a fish, that player will become the new Mr. Shark.

    Kids love playing
Two children in goggles try to swim away underwater while playing pool games.

    10. Air Ball

    Items Needed: beach ball

Number of Players: At least 4 people, but the more, the merrier!

How to Play: This game is played just like Keepy Uppy with a balloon (any Bluey fans here?). The object of the game is to keep the ball from touching the water by passing it to one another through a “setting” motion like in volleyball. The round ends when the ball touches the water. Do you want to make it even more challenging? Turn this simple game into a pool float party game by having to keep the ball up while sitting on separate tubes and floats!

    Play
A group of kids play air ball for exciting pool games.

    11. Sharks and Minnows

    Items Needed: None

Number of Players: At least 10 players (works well with large groups)

How to Play: One of the most classic pool games for parties, Sharks and Minnows is definitely a favorite! One player is chosen to be the shark, and the rest of the players will be minnows. The shark and minnows will stand at opposite ends of the pool. The shark will then say, “Fishies, Fishies, come out and play!” The minnows will begin to make their way to the other end of the pool before the shark tags them. If a minnow gets tagged, that player becomes a shark, which makes the game more difficult as it goes on. Keep playing until one minnow remains. The last minnow remaining wins and is now the first shark for a new round.

One of the most classic pool games,
A family splashes their way to the other end of the pool while playing pool games.

    12. Classic Chicken Fight

    Items Needed: None

Number of Players: 4 players (2 players per team). More 2-player teams can play in a tournament.

How to Play: Each team chooses who will be on top and who will be on the bottom. The person on the bottom must be in shallow enough water to be able to touch the pool floor with their feet and still have their head and shoulders out of the water. Once a player from each team has a teammate on their shoulders, the two top players begin upright wrestling. The object of the game is to knock the other top player off their teammate’s shoulders and into the pool. Whoever falls off first loses that round. The next team of two plays against the champs of the last round.

    Everyone loves playing
Two children sit on their parent’s shoulders while playing “chicken fight” pool games.

    13. Jaws

    Items Needed: None

Number of Players: At least 10 players (works well with large groups)

How to Play: This game is basically a water version of the game “tag.” But this tag game is not just for kids—Jaws is a perfect option for swimming games for adults, too! A person is chosen to be “Jaws,” and the other players have to try to avoid getting “bitten” or tagged. If tagged, that person is now “Jaws.”

    Play
A man swims away from a real shark—not the pretend shark found in these pool games.

    14. Popsicle Tag

    Items Needed: None

Number of Players: At least 10 players (works well with large groups)

How to Play: This is a variation on the game of “freeze tag.” Unless all players are able to tread water easily in the deep end, this game is best played in the shallow end of the pool. The person chosen to be “it” tries to tag others. If someone is tagged, they have to freeze (like a popsicle) and stand in one spot with their legs apart. To get “unfrozen,” another player has to swim under the “frozen” player’s legs. The round ends when the “it” player freezes everyone (or they are too tired to keep being “it”).

    Play
Several kids with floats are excited to play pool games.

    15. Atomic Whirlpool

    Items Needed: None

Number of Players: a large group of people

How to Play: The object of this game is to make a large whirlpool, then turn around to see if you can go against the current! All players get in a single-file line behind the leader. The leader walks toward the end person and makes a circle. Everyone begins running as fast as they can in a circle. Once a good whirlpool current gets going, the leader then yells, “Turn!” All players will turn around and try to run against the current they made. This is sure to bring lots of laughs as everyone realizes how difficult it is to run against the current!

  • 6 Simple Tips to Turn Your Home into a Sanctuary – Morning Lazziness

6 Simple Tips to Turn Your Home into a Sanctuary – Morning Lazziness

Who wouldn’t want a house so well-suited to their specific requirements and taste that the first thing they do upon entering is let out a sigh of relief?

That is precisely what you stand to gain when you turn your house into a haven from the outside world. After all, people tend to spend a lot of time at home. And undoubtedly, everyone would like to avoid having a sense of urgency or disorganization in their own space without resorting to a cut-and-dry approach.

Everyone wants their house to be something other than a source of stress too.

Incorporating even a few basic changes into your homes can profoundly affect your mental and emotional well-being. Here are seven suggestions to help turn your house into the sanctuary of your works.

    1. Keep your space tidy!

A cluttered, unclean environment is stressful and tiring, and you can never relax after a long, tiring day. So, the first tip is to keep your clutter under control. Keep up with your everyday chores, including putting away the dirty dishes, not leaving your shoes and coats lying around your room, and keeping your laundry under control at all costs.

You need not devote every free minute to tidying up, as you can always take breaks to relax to some fun games at your fav online casino using your Croco casino login. After all, you need adequate rest after hours of work.

Fortunately, by doing routine tidying up daily, you’ll spend less time cleaning and more time living. If you make it a practice to spend 10 minutes a day clearing up, you might be surprised by the difference it makes.

    2. Add some plants

Medicinal Plants to Keep in Your Garden & Home

Lush vegetation is a necessary component of any sanctuary. Plants in your living room, bedroom, or even kitchen can help you relax and feel more lively. There’s a wide variety of plants out there, so take your time and pick the ones that will bring nature in all its glory into your home or office. Also, pick out beautiful plant pots to improve your space’s aesthetic.

    3. Be grateful

The things you own, the house you live in, the bed you sleep in, all of these are precious. You have invested effort and money into the furnishings that now occupy your home. You probably also developed strong attachments to your belongings. So, cherish whatever you have as though it were the last one you ever had or ever will.

Recognize and appreciate its value to you.

While it may sound “woo-woo,” being thankful for all you have in your home will alter your perspective as a sense of what matters and what doesn’t in life begins to form. Once you eliminate the obstacles blocking your path to your true passions, genuine people, and the life you were meant to live, you also form a closer relationship with yourself.

    4. Use your lighting intentionally

The way a room is lit has a significant effect on how it is seen. Feeling like you’re in an interrogation room or a huge box store because of the glaring fluorescent lights hung from the ceiling doesn’t resonate with anyone wanting to turn their living space into their haven.

So, a good tip would be to use your light intentionally. A room might feel more open and spacious with the help of natural light.

Additionally, since using artificial lighting is unavoidable, it’s best to keep to warmer tones and have the option to brighten or darken the space to suit your mood. You could try dimming the lights or turning some on and off; regular or battery-operated candles and string lights can also be useful. The right lights will transform your house into a relaxing haven.

    5. Free up some room

    Home Decor

Filling gaps is second nature to human beings. When a wall is blank, the default reaction is to fill it with art. People also stock up on books whenever they notice an empty shelf and stock their pantry with new food whenever it becomes empty. Still, there are times when clearing the decks is the best way to make room for fresh ideas, cherished recollections, and heartfelt gratitude.

It’s as important to clear up your schedules as it is to clear some physical space. You can better understand what’s happening in your environment if you give your mind and body time to reflect on what you’ve witnessed. Constant activity and consumption leave no room for rest and renewal.

    6. Add some scent

The scent in your home can be just as important as its visual appeal when creating a relaxing and nurturing environment for yourself.

Scent has the power to transport you to cherished memories and heartwarming moments. Choose a musky or woodsy smell as the days become shorter, and switch to something with more citrus or floral undertones as the weather warms up for a pleasant change.

    Final thoughts

An upgraded living space can easily become the ideal location to relax and recharge. Make improvements to the furniture, lighting, organization, and decor in the different rooms of your home. Remember to put a bit more toward the things that truly matter to you while being frugal with the aspects since turning your living space into a haven doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg.

The majority of our time is devoted to domestic pursuits. Creating a sanctuary in your home is well worth the investment, whether you’re gutting the bathroom or simply buying new towels.

After all, do guys regret letting a good girl go?

Your mind may be racing with these endless questions and you will find yourself looking for clues. Perhaps, you need to know for your own peace of mind or so that you can rekindle the relationship. How to know he regrets hurting you? Here are some signs:

13 Signs He Regrets Hurting You

Do men regret losing a good woman? A Reddit user wrote, “All the time. Its been over 10yrs and I still regret losing her. She cared for me, put me first, most of the things she did was for me and I dumped her..I’m paying for it every day.. Haven’t met anyone like her and I’m living my Karma as I write this.”

    1. He keeps chasing you

A Reddit user wrote, “I have an ex from years ago who dumped me. I was the first woman who cared for him deeply. Treated him good and accepted his flaws. We didn’t get back together although he regretted his decision and tried to win me back after a month and even months later he was still chasing me.

“Years passed by and he dated another woman. She didn’t treat him right like I did and along their relationship all he could think of was our time together. They broke up eventually and he tried to take me again lol.” Hence, if he keeps coming back to you even after dating other people, then you’re the kind of girl guys regret losing.

Analyze his behavior closely, and you’ll have your answer. His actions will show he’s trying to rebuild love after emotional damage.

    • He may show up outside your workplace or your home
    • He may show up at a common friend’s party/attend events that are usually not his cup of tea

Beware, these are signs you are dating a stalker. It may seem like a strange coincidence but he knows your schedule and knows where to find you. These are some of the strongest signs he’s feeling regret after breaking up, but is it cute or creepy? That is for you to decide.

    5. He’s trying to make amends

How to know he regrets hurting you? You will see a change in his actions and not just empty promises of being better. He won’t be direct with grand romantic gestures, but his actions will make it clear that he wants you back. If you are cheated upon and still decide to make a go of your relationship, you are in the driver’s seat. Remember, he has to win back your trust, so put the onus on him to make amends. A repentant man will go out of his way to attend to your needs.

If in the pre-cheating days, he rarely had the time for the kids’ homework or run errands around the house, in his new avatar, he might become more hands-on. He realizes that he has broken your heart, so the first step toward the long road to reconciliation would be to ensure your comforts are taken care of, even if it means putting himself in discomfort.

    6. He is willing to seek professional help

The fact that he is willing to invest his time and energy in rebuilding his relationship with you is among the signs he regrets hurting you. Let an experienced professional help you along your journey. Maybe he’s not sure either about how to show remorse after cheating and requires guidance in that area. If you’re currently struggling with recovering after infidelity in your dynamic and wish to avail professional help, Bonobology has a multitude of experienced therapists who can help you through this trying time.

If he’s willing to work on himself, this is his way of saying that you still mean something to him. He probably misses you. Now, it is for you to decide whether you miss your ex or miss being in love. If the answer is the former, it could be worth reconsidering a future with him. But remember, fixing a failed relationship/giving someone a second chance requires a lot of patience.

    7. He goes the extra mile

The partner who has caused the hurt can’t just say “sorry” and fix the other partner’s paranoia. If your SO cheated, every time he doesn’t answer your call or comes home late, you will feel anxious. Likewise, if the damage has been triggered by constant belittling or manipulation, you will likely to be more sensitive and wary of his words.

Hence, he needs to go the extra mile to fix the damage. If he has hurt you by infidelity, here are examples of behaviors that he regrets his actions:

    • He has become an open book, who keeps zero secrets from you
    • If the person he had an affair with contacts him, he lets you know
    • He’s making an extra effort to win your trust back, even if it means being accountable every minute of the day

    8. He feels genuinely sorry

How do guys show they are sorry? According to the Gottman Repair Checklist, here are some phrases one uses when trying to show accountability for the damage that they caused:

    • “I really blew that one”
    • “I can see my part in all this”
    • “How can I make things better?”
    • “I’m sorry. Please forgive me”
    • “I want to be gentler to you right now and I don’t know how”

A Reddit user wrote, “Often we may feel remorse for an action or careless words, and WANT to make amends, but can get clumsy around the actual apology itself.” So, when a man knows he messed up, his apology won’t feel fake to you. You will be able to see the genuineness, in his eyes and in his words.

    9. He is obsessed with the ‘what ifs’

A Reddit user wrote, “The relationship wasn’t working well, we had very different needs at the time. She’s still the best person I know. I don’t regret it so much as I think what would have happened? Would it have been just a rough patch in an otherwise great relationship? I seriously love her as a person and wish her the best. I occasionally get hit with a bit of jealousy and the ‘what ifs’.”

So, if he is still obsessed with hypothetical possibilities/what if questions, you’re definitely the kind of girl guys regret losing. Even my ex regrets breaking up with me. How do I know? He keeps using the following statements:

    • “Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if we were still together”
    • “Can we start from scratch, go to our favorite places and make those good memories again?”
    • “The regret after breakup has taken me over. I still have strong feelings for you”

    10. He wants to stay friends after the breakup

Studies reveal that maintaining connection after breakup is a common way to lessen the pain of a heartbreak. But this also implies that staying in touch with an ex can eventually lead to a patch up. So, if he is up for staying friends after the breakup, it’s synonymous with “I regret losing her”.

As leadership coach Kena Shree points out, “You can still fall in love with your ex, while you are committed to someone else. This is because you are looking at your ex from a distance. Being friends with your ex shows versions of them that you didn’t know existed. So, you are at the risk of falling in love with them all over again.”

    11. Your loved ones can see the change

If your marriage or committed relationship has faced the tsunami of infidelity, close friends or family will get a whiff of it. Just the way a crisis doesn’t appear suddenly, it doesn’t disappear all of a sudden either. So if you really want to know if your partner has mended his ways, seek the opinion of people you trust. They will be the best judge.

In your obsession and yearning to make things work between you two, you might misconstrue the smallest actions to be signs he regrets losing you. Wishful thinking, as it’s called. Your clouded judgment may not be the best thing for you, which is when your friends and family can help you out.

    12. He is more loving toward you

Do guys regret taking you for granted? Yes. How do they show it? By being more loving toward you. His behavior might remind you of the time you first started dating, as he tries to bring back the excitement of those days by:

    • Saying ‘I love you’ like he really means it
    • Holding your hand/hugging you in public
    • Kissing your forehead/cheek

Cheating often occurs when a couple is well-entrenched in a relationship and one of them goes astray for whatever reason. It can also happen in a new relationship. When cheaters realize they made a mistake and he tries to make amends, it’s as good as trying to woo you anew, so he will be on his best behavior.

    13. He spends quality time with you

My friend (who parted ways with his partner) told me, “I pushed her away and now I regret it. She was the best thing that happened to me. I regret letting her go. Will I ever find love again?” To win his SO back, he resorted to:

    • Cuddling session, eye contact
    • Revealing secrets to her
    • Scheduling weekly date nights
    • Picking up a new hobby together (skydiving/watching artsy movies)

So, when you regret hurting someone, you find ways to spend more time with them. If he expresses quality time love language, then it’s one of the sure-shot signs he regrets hurting you.

    Key Pointers

    • Do guys feel guilty for hurting you? Yes if they end up taking responsibility for it
    • Another good sign is if he still has eyes for only you instead a new woman in his social life
    • There’s a big difference between feeling sorry and just apologizing for the sake of it
    • Another sign he feels bad could be him drunk dialing you or stalking your social media
    • The most important thing is that your loved ones can see he has changed

Finally, if you’re wondering “Will he ever apologize for hurting me?” or “Is he avoiding me because he feels guilty?”, the most important thing is to stop waiting for closure. Maybe, the Universe is trying to take you out of a painful situation. Maybe, better is coming! Also, the first place to look for love is your own heart…
