Cardi B Shares Frustrations About the High Price of Lettuce, and We Couldn’t Agree More

It’s no secret that grocery prices are increasing. According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, grocery prices were up 13.5 percent in August 2022 from the year before, making it the largest 12-month percentage increase since March 1979. If you’re feeling frustrated about the increase in your weekly grocery bill, you’re not alone. Rapper and songwriter Cardi B has taken to Twitter to rant about the cost of lettuce.

In the Tweet, captioned “PSA!!!!” Cardi shares her frustrations. “Let me tell you something, when I be complaining about food prices and ya’ll motherf—ers be like ‘Ain’t you rich? Why are you complaining about lettuce? Why are you complaining about this?’ That just goes to show me [that] when you become successful, when you have money, you’re going to go broke soon because y’all not budgeting.”

She continues on, explaining how she receives a summary of household expenses each week. When she saw her grocery bill “tripling up,” she went to the supermarket and saw that the price of lettuce went from $2 to $7 in just a few months. “Of course, I’m going to say something.” The rapper hopes that by voicing her concerns on her platform (27.5 million Twitter followers), she can help enact change.
