The driver, Brandon Lovett, was taken to the hospital and has been cited for reckless driving. Lovett’s injuries are not life-threatening.

The restaurant said it will be closed until further notice.

Mezcalito manager Antonio Rivas said they were closing up for the night with some customers still in the parking lot.

Rivas was on the front patio when the crash happened. He said customers told him the driver hit the train tracks at a high rate of speed and made a “U,” crashing into the side of the building.

No employees or customers were hurt. Rivas said it’s common to see drivers going too fast on the surrounding part of Fayetteville Street.

“We did have one employee come close. They were about maybe five feet away from the impact,” said Rivas. “Luckily, they were fortunate enough to not get hurt at all. They are shaken up. We are trying to take the best actions that we can to help them with what happened last night.”
