Caldecott Tunnel fire: Eastbound lanes reopen

[ad_1]

(KRON) — All lanes are back open after a vehicle fire in the eastbound direction of the Caldecott Tunnel shut down traffic for hours. Earlier, the California Highway Patrol advised that the tunnel’s right bore was open, while the left bore remained blocked.

A severe traffic alert was issued by the CHP. However, as of 12:43 p.m., all lanes of Highway 24 were open. Officials warned of residual delays.

Flames were seen coming out of the bottom of the vehicle that caught fire, a Ford F-150, at around 10 a.m.

Motorists were advised to expect delays, use alternative routes and avoid the area. At one point, there were approximately 20 to 30 vehicles stuck in the tunnel as a result of the blaze.

Traffic approaching the tunnel was backed up in both directions. There is no word on whether anyone has been injured as a result of the fire.
