BREAKING: East Cleveland Asks National Guard For Help
The investigative team for local television news station FOX 8 has learned that the city of East Cleveland has formally requested help from the National Guard.
The East Cleveland police force is understaffed, in part because of corruption charges and unlawful use of force allegations.
East Cleveland Mayor Brandon King cites that his police force is too small. He penned a letter to Ohio Governor Mike DeWine recently.
From FOX 8:
“I am formally requesting your assistance,” the letter said, in part. “The Ohio National Guard and State Defense. The East Cleveland Police Department… has been reduced by more than 50 percent… safe and timely service has become a matter of grave concern.”
Will The National Guard Report To East Cleveland?
The FOX 8 report states that the National Guard will not be reporting to East Cleveland. However, the city will receive added bodies by way of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
There’s no word on when the added law enforcement will report to East Cleveland.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
