Fishel, who portrayed fan favorite Topanga Lawrence on the 90s sitcom Boy Meets World, admits that she scheduled her mammogram the day she received a reminder text to do so. She considered only keeping the news to close family but changed her mind for an important reason.
“If it’s time for your appointment, if you’ve never had an appointment before, get in there. If you have to find out that you have cancer, find out when it’s at stage 0, if possible.” Danielle Fishel on Pod Meets World podcast
Variety.com reports that Fishel only decided to go public with her diagnosis after reading material from author Glennon Doyle.
From Variety:
Fishel changed her mind after reading material from author Glennon Doyle, who argues that women need to help others in the beginning or during the “messy middle” of a battle as opposed to waiting until they’re out of the experience.
Fishel will meet with multiple doctors and medical professionals to determine the proper next steps.
