A 16-year-old boy was being questioned by police in the shooting death of a 15-year-old boy Wednesday afternoon in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.

Two people, including the suspect, approached Phillip Mitchell on the sidewalk and an argument erupted in the 7100 block of South King Drive about 5:40 p.m., according to a police report.

The suspect allegedly pushed Mitchell and a second person shot him at close range, the report said.

Officers responding to a ShotSpotter alert found Mitchell in the middle of the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his head and body.

Mitchell, of Greater Grand Crossing, was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:13 p.m., police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

The 16-year-old boy was taken into custody a block north of the scene, and police were still looking for the shooter.

No charges have been announced in the attack, which was captured on police POD camera surveillance.

Area One detectives are investigating.
