SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) – A lot of fans were talking about Boogie Ellis on Sunday night.

Ellis, a rookie out of USC, led all scorers with 17 points in the Kings’ 85-59 win over San Antonio on the second day of the California Classic at Golden 1 Center.

“He has really impressed me, I thought that the energy changed when he came into the game,” said Kings coach Doug Christie. “It wasn’t like the energy was bad, it just wasn’t ‘Boogie’ energy. And when he comes in the game, everything changes.”

Boogie Ellis, who went undrafted last month, joined the Kings roster after scoring 16.5 points per game at USC last season.

“I believe I’m a great basketball player and I’m better than a lot of guys that were picked,” said Ellis. “But, at the end of the day, I gotta go show my hard work, show what I do.

“So I just continue to work, keep my head down and keep working. It’s gonna pay off.”

The Kings will conclude their three-day California Classic on Tuesday night when they meet the Charlotte Hornets at 7:00 p.m. On Wednesday, the Kings will meet the Golden State Warriors in the Battle of NorCal at Chase Center before heading to Las Vegas for NBA Summer League.
