Blue Hawaiian Jello Shots

[ad_1]

Blue Hawaiian Jello Shots are the ultimate party favor! A riff on the classic Blue Hawaiian cocktail, this jello shot recipe is a blend of blue Jello, Malibu rum, Blue Curacao and pineapple juice.

Blue jello shots are simple to make and have the tropical island flavors you love in cocktails! From your summer bbq to bachelorette party, these jiggly party favors will be the hit of your summertime bash.

Ingredients

Here are the ingredients to make Blue Hawaiian Jello Shots:

  • Berry Blue Jello (or your favorite flavor)
  • Water (Boiling water and cold water)
  • Malibu Coconut Rum (or Malibu Pineapple Rum)
  • De Kuyper Blue Curacao
  • Pineapple Juice
  • Garnish Ideas – maraschino cherries, pineapple tidbits, and whipped cream

To get the classic Blue Hawaiian cocktail flavors stick to the original Malibu rum. It provides the coconut flavor. I use Malibu pineapple rum often, since it’s what I tend to have stocked in my liquor cabinet, but it will lack the coconut flavor.

Many of these garnishes will work with other Jello Shot Recipes.

How to Make

Here’s a quick overview to making rum jello shots. Reference the recipe card below for full details and instructions.

  1. Combine the gelatin and boiling water.
  2. Mix in the pineapple rum, De Kuyper Blue Curacao and pineapple juice.
  3. Pour into 2 oz. plastic shot glasses.
  4. Refrigerate for 2-4 hours.
  5. Add optional garnishes and serve the blue jello cups.

Here’s how many jello shots you’ll get out of the different size boxes, when using 2 oz. plastic containers:

  • 3.2 oz Box – this size will make 14-16 shots, when each cup is filled 3/4 of the way full.
  • 6 oz Box – this size will make 28-32 shots, when each cup is filled 3/4 of the way full.

Blue Jello Options

I always use Berry Blue, since it’s easy to find in-stores, but you can also use Starburst Blue Raspberry to make blue raspberry jello shots. I make Starburst Jello Shots with the all pink version and they’re amazing.

Those are the only 2 blue colored Jello flavors I’m familiar with. Let me know if you spot any others!

Darcey’s Expert Tips

  • To make a non-alcohol jello shot, just replace all the booze with more pineapple juice. It will change the flavor, but it will be booze-free!
  • Mix the liquids in a large measuring cup with a pour spout. It makes it MUCH easier to pour and avoid spills.
  • Place the plastic cups on a cookie sheet before filling. It makes it easier to clean up any spills and transfer in and out of the refrigerator.
  • Keep the shots refrigerated until ready to serve to keep the firm texture.
  • If you decide to add the cherry on top, I recommend carving out a little bit of the gelatin so the cherry sits nicely inside.
  • This jello shot recipe can be made up to 2 days in advance. Just make sure to place the top on the shots so a gross film doesn’t develop on the top.
