ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — As residents in the North Carolina mountains continue to recover from Tropical Storm Helene that flooded widespread areas and left at least 95 people dead, one key tourist attraction plans to open in two weeks.
The Biltmore Estate, which closed from damage due to Helene in late September, plans to reopen on Saturday, November 2, according to a Saturday news release from the business.
Throughout western North Carolina, more than 670 roads have reopened but about 550 are still closed, including Interstate 40 near downtown Asheville, the North Carolina Department of Transportation said Friday.

Some of the worst flooding in Asheville was visible in the Biltmore Village area, which is near the entrance to the Biltmore Estate.
The Biltmore House was not damaged by Helene, but other structures and areas of the estate were damaged.
Biltmore officials said work is underway that makes a reopening possible.
“On the estate, crews have been working to repair damaged areas and preparations to welcome guests back,” the Saturday news release from the Biltmore Estate said.
But, wooded areas and some roads on the estate are still undergoing cleanup. Trails and the Outdoor Adventure Center at the Biltmore Estate will remain closed until further notice.
Because of roads that are still closed, tourists visiting the Biltmore Estate next month “are encouraged to plan for the possibility of needing to take alternative routes,” the news release said.
When the estate reopens, the area will be decorated for the season called “Christmas at Biltmore,” officials said. Tickets during the Christmas season at the estate start at $125.
