ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A local ice cream shop offered free cones on Tuesday. Ben & Jerry’s on Madison Avenue participated in the company’s Free Cone Day.
The annual celebration started more than 40 years ago as a way of thanking customers for supporting the first shop through a cold and snowy winter in Vermont. Even as the company has expanded into a national chain, the owners have not forgotten their roots.
“We’re a loving, peaceful company, and we love our people that come in here,” Albany Ben & Jerry’s co-owner Michael Sperduto said. “We love ice cream, we love happiness, and we really appreciate everybody.”
Ben & Jerry’s set a goal of giving out more than 1 million cones across all their locations.
